Getting your first Flying Mount in Palworld
Getting your first flying mount in Palworld! Early tips & basics about the flying mount system.
Hello fellow Pal tamers! If you're here, then you're curious about early Flying Mounts in Palworld. I don't intend this to be a comprehensive guide, but I will focus on two main topics:
- The basics of Palworlds Flying Mount system.
- Getting your first Flying Mount in the early game.
And I guess some tips regarding flying mounts in Palworld going forward that you should always keep in mind.
The absolute basics of Flying Mounts in Palworld
Flying in Palworld isn't rocket science (It's... riding a winged creature). Here's the summary of it:
- Capture a suitable Pal to become a flying mount (Obviously, not all are).
- Then, unlock its Saddle in the Technology Tree. So, there's a "minimum" level for each Pal.
- Finally, build the Saddle at the Pal Gear Workbench - and you're good to go!
- Sadly, the flying mount Pal has to be in your team, and "summoned", to ride it.
Not all flying mounts are equal. Movement speed is the most important "stat" for a flying mount, obviously, and each flying Pal species have different "baselines" which aren't explicitly stated. Of course, this is affected by Pal Passive Skills such as Swift (+30% Movement Speed).
Nitewing - the earliest flying mount
The earliest Pal you can use as a flying mount is Nitewing. You can find them near the starting area around Zoe and Grizzbolt's Tower. Anywhere north of the Mammorest alpha marker - in that general zone.
Use any kind of ranged weapon (likely a Bow at this point) to bring it down, and fight it from there. They're usually around Level 10 or so - so try to have the GREEN Sphere for this, but you can get away with the Blue Pal Spheres with enough tries.
Before you can fly, you must unlock and build Nitewing's Saddle - which opens at Level 14 on the Technology Tree. Like all Pal Gear, it's built at the Pal Gear Workstation.
Is Nitewing any good as a flying mount?
Quite frankly, No. But he's gonna be your best buddy (or Pal, as you might say) for a while. No matter how slow Nitewing is - the sheer usefulness of crossing gaps, and going upwards allows you to explore much easier and faster than you would be walking. While you should be looking out to upgrade your Nitewing - put respect to it's name as THE early game Palworld flying mount GOAT.
Tips for flying mounts in general
Always look to improve your flying mount. Which basically means "Catch as many Nitewings and other flying mounts as you can". Any movement speed Passive Skill is amazing for them! You of course want Swift (+30%), but Runner (+20%), or ??? is just fine.
You can fight WHILE Riding in battle! It's an extra layer of safety, and you can ACTIVELY control your flying mount to fight. Keep an eye out for mounts that are not only fast, but powerful too. Attack and Defense Passives are welcome with any flying mount you plan on fighting with.
In the future, one of your first breeding projects should be getting a better flying mount by chasing these movement speed passives. But that's a topic for another guide.
Summary, Closing, Related Info
So yeah, Nitewing is the first flying mount you can get in Palworld. It's not the best, but it REALLY broadens your horizons to where you can go, and how fast you can get there. Always catch flying Pals and hope for great movespeed passives - you never know! You'll REALLY feel it when you get better and better flying mounts.
