Without a doubt - in the early game purchasing Wheat Seeds from Merchants at 100 gold each is miles easier than any other way early on.

You can find a "non-mobile" merchant at the Small Settlement Waypoint (76, -486 Coords for the waypoint). He's on the "ground floor" of the village at the northern side. He's wearing red, inside a shack.
