FFXVI Dread Comet Hunt Guide: Location, Strategy, etc

Dread Comet is a Rank A Hunt (Notorious Mark), whose location is offically listed as, "The Sickle, Dhalmekia". You'll need to be at main scenario quest A Song of Hope to unlock it.

Dread Comet Location

Where is Dread Comet located? Teleport to The Jaw in Dhalmekia. From there, head on over to The Sickle - Dread Comet spawns in the (first / south) "connection" between The Sickle and Fields of Corava.

Beating Dread Comet

This one was oddly fun. It felt like a DPS race slugfest, haha. Dread Comet CANNOT BE STAGGERED, and occassionaly can be Knocked Down.

Choco Meteor: Drops a meteor with a fast outward wave upon landing. Seems to increase amount the lower its life.

Choco Meteorain: Multiple meteors randomly and quickly. Get ready to heal. Use Will-'o-the-Wykes here. Either you tryhard and carefully dodge all, or do what I did. Caveman, ungga bungga, limit break, heal through, smash birdie.

Being Airborne seems to stop the ground wave damage from both of these skills.

Dread Comet doesn't have a lot of life, but has very annoying skills that hurt. Kill or be killed. Open with Judgment Bolt into Gigaflare asap, then dump all of your skills.

I'd like to say the usual, "Dread Comet has all the Chocobo skills" - but Chocobo's pretty much only basic attack in different ways, lol.

Dread Comet Reccomended Skill Setup

If doing ASAP:

  • Eikon 1
    • Rising Flames (Any skill)
    • Will-'o-the-Wykes (SAVE FOR CHOCO METEORAIN)
  • Ramuh
    • Windup (Mastered - Titan)
    • Judgment Bolt
  • Bahamut
    • Impulse (Any skill)
    • Gigaflare

If not doing ASAP, then use the above as a template.

Dread Comet Rewards

Dread Comet Notable rewards are: Comet Feather, used to craft Ouroboros.

Dread Comet Miscellaneous Info

On finding Dread Comet, Clive says: "That’s like no chocobo I’ve ever seen. Something tells me it won’t be easily broken."

Upon defeating Dread Comet, Clive says: "Poor beast. There was nothing I could do."
