FF16 Bahamut Trial Guide. Strategy, Location, etc.

Looking for help beating the Bahamut trial (Hand of Mimas Chronolith)? Hopefully our strategy, tips, tricks, (and potential cheese) help you get throught the Trial by Light!

Impulse and Gigaflare are obviously crowd favorites, so it makes this a little easier. Satellite is also surprisingly fun and effective with Magic Bursts - which was my biggest takeaway here. HOWEVER, Flare Breath still kinda sucks, lol.

Bahamut Trial Location

Bahamut's Trial is unlocked at the Hand of Mimas Chronolith. The nearest waypoint is Northreach at Sanbreque. Head into and exit Northreach town to the north. Keep going west until you're at the end of this "cliff". The very leftmost tip of Cape Orsiere.

Bahamut Trial Strategy Stage by Stage tips

Note that while I wrote this for the Final Trial of Light ("Hard mode"), this advice will definitely apply to the normal Chronolith (Hand of Mimas) as well.

Bahamut Trial - best general tips

  • Megacharge. Land a fully charged Megaflare (+8ss)
  • Multiflare. Land 50 Megaflare shots (+8s)

Yikes, none of these are good. It's very possible to get S even without this junk.

Bahamut Trial Stage 1

Skills:

  • Flare Breath. Hit an enemy 120 times with Flare Breath (+12s)
  • Satellite. Hit an enemy 60 times with Satellite (+12s)

Flare Breath is annoyingly good vs trash, and you'll get the bonus easily. As for Satellite, SPAM THAT and you can gain 36s off of one cast.

Stage 1-1

Enemies: Trash mobs

On Satellite, On Flare Breath, gather them up and spam magic ALL THE WAY. You should get your bonuses from this and over 180 Satellite hits.

Stage 1-2

Enemies: Trash mobs

Same process here, but Satellite may not be up yet.

Stage 1-3

Enemies: Slime miniboss

This one is funny... If you have Satellite + Flare Breath you can use the supercombo again. You can also try Satellite + forced Magic Burst combos. If it's staggered you can also do Flare Breath for the bonus. Meh. If you can save Limit Break, do so, as you'll need it on the next stage.

Bahamut Trial Stage 2

Skills:

  • Impulse: Hit two enemies with Impulse (+12s)
  • Satellite. Hit an enemy 60 times with Satellite (+12s)

Satellite is a little more difficult to maximize here... You'll learn how to mash square and triangle simulateneously to get it.

Stage 2-1

Enemies: Lich miniboss and trashmobs.

Open with Impulse into Satellite. Change your lockon target with L1. SPAM SATELLITE and explode impulse at the right time. Hopefully you kill some trash along the way. Once it's just the lich go ham. Feel free to limit break any time its full and tunnel on the Lich while mashing both attack and magic. Save Impulse if it's overkill.

Stage 2-2

Enemies: Trash mobs.

Impulse freely, maximize Satellite spam if it's up. Save Impulse if it's overkill.

Stage 2-3

Enemies:Miniboss + Flyers

Same process here, stupidly mash satellite on the flyers, Impulse when available. Do Satellite + Limit Break on the miniboss. Feel free to use Limit Break here anytime.

Bahamut Trial Stage 3

Skills:

  • Impulse: Hit two enemies with Impulse (+12s)
  • Gigaflare: Hit two enemies with Gigaflare (+15s)

Stage 3-1

Enemies: Fallen miniboss + trash.

Find a nice line where you target at least 1 (preferably multiple) balls and the boss with Gigaflare (it pierces). After that hopefully you get the Impulse Bonus. This one usually dies even before stagger.

Stage 3-2

Enemies: Trash mobs

Gain time here by Impulse. Lunge Burst Stomp rotation to gain time as well. Hold Gigaflare for next set.

Stage 3-3

Enemies: 2x Miniboss Dragoon + Fats.

If you have Impulse, pop it. Line up your Gigaflare and tag 'em both. Hopefully the Dragoon doesn't jump. Impulse and hope for the best. Pop limit break right after and go to town.

Final Stage - Boss

Skills:

  • Skill: Flare Breath (No Bonus)
  • Skill: Gigaflare (No Bonus)

Boss:

I have no idea if Flare Breath is ever worth it, even during stagger... My guess is that it's not. Gigaflare, you'll probably get one good use out of it, so do it during stagger. If you aren't confident, maybe you can do an opener Giga, and once more later. Both strats seem valid. You can also try Giga during partial, and another Giga down the line.

Summary and Closing

Bahamut's Trial is a weird one. I haven't tried Megaflare centric strategies but I imagine it's gotta suck. Maybe while Satellite-ing? Oh well, S is possible without it. While Satellite is cool, it's very tedious to use. Flare Breath is meh, but amazing vs trash... Hmm.. Giga and Impulse are broken AF. All in all I didn't learn much here, but it's not a bad trial all said and done.
