FF16 Titan Trial Guide. Strategy, Location, etc.
Looking for help beating the Titan trial (Hand of Titan Chronolith)? Hopefully our strategy, tips, tricks, (and potential cheese) help you get throught the Trial by Earth!
I honestly think this is the funnest one. I hear some people struggle with it, but hopefully you change your mind if you are one of these people with the guidance you'll find here.
Titan Trial Location
Titan's Trial is unlocked at the Hand of Titan Chronolith. The nearest waypoint is The Velkroy Desert at Dhalmekia. From here, enter the area northeast from here right on the map text "The Northern Velkroy Desert". Keep following the path east and north to the end and you'll see the Chronolith there.

Titan Trial Strategy Stage by Stage tips
Note that while I wrote this for the Final Trial of Earth ("Hard mode"), this advice will definitely apply to the normal Chronolith (Hand of Titan) as well.
Titan Trial - best general tips
- Execute three Pecision Blocks. (+8s)
- Land six Titanic Counters (+8s)
These are pretty good bonuses, but hard to "force". They feed into each other too. Two Precision Blocks will give you six Titanic Counters. Very satisfying and worth the attempt each time (over precision dodge giving 1s).
So yeah, always try to Titanic Block / Counter.
Ultimately, all of Titans Skills and how the Trials are setup are very fortunate. I found it very fun, easy, and satisfying to get S on.
Titan Trial Stage 1
Skills:
- Ragins Fists. Block an incoming attack and land a counter with Raging Fists. (+12s)
- Upheaval. Strike an enemy with a fully charged Upheaval (+12s)
Note that for Upheaval, "fully charged" means precision charge (red area).
Stage 1-1
Enemies: Trash mobs.
Upheaval, then ground stomp them. Don't bother with Raging Fists here.
Stage 1-2
Enemies: Trash mobs.
While waiting for Upheaval here, you can attempt a Raging Fists counter. Once Upheaval comes up, use it and then clean up with as many stomps as you can.
Stage 1-3
Enemies: Gigas miniboss.
Raging Fists counter as much as you can (you're probably gonna land 2 max). Upheaval, you'll probably only get one use so try to do it exactly at partial stagger or stagger.
Titan Trial Stage 2
Skills:
- Windup. Strike an enemy with a fully charged Windup (+12s)
- Upheaval. Strike an enemy with a fully charged Upheaval (+12s)
The usage of Upheaval for either Stage 2 or 3 is still up in the air for me. Having it for 2-3 opener is great. But not doing it at 2-2 is a huge time loss.
Note that for Windup and Upheaval, "fully charged" means precision charge (red area).
Stage 2-1
Enemies: Adamantoise miniboss and trash mobs.
Go near and Upheaval ASAP. Obliterate this turtle with Windup and Limit Break. Try to hold your next Upheaval for the next stage.
Stage 2-2
Enemies: Trash mobs.
Upheaval ASAP here - if you get 'em all they're all pretty much dead. Try not to Windup here.
Stage 2-3
Enemies: "Fatty Axe" miniboss and bombs.
KIll the bombs asap, ideally with Upheaval. Obliterate this fatty axe with all your skills and Limit Break. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO "STOP" EXECUTION by any means except a full stagger (if that even works?) It SEEMS execution will go through no matter WHAT YOU DO.
Titan Trial Stage 3
Skills:
- Windup. Strike an enemy with a fully charged Windup (+12s)
- Earthen Fury. Hit two enemies with a single Earthen Fury (+15s)
Earthen Fury is... Titans worst skill lol. Again, the Windup bonus is for precision charge.
Stage 3-1
Enemies: Coeurl Miniboss + Goblins.
Earthen Fury ASAP, for some reason i can never get all goblins. Windup liberally. Titanic Block is huge here if you can trigger it, as it's very difficult to kill
Stage 3-2
Enemies: Trash mobs.
Try to gain as much time as you can here. If you have Windup at the beginning, use it. Try to have it up for the next stage though. Stmops and Precision Block as much as you can.
Stage 3-3
Enemies: Double miniboss. Slime + "Agile guy".
Earthen Fury as soon as you can. IDEALLY - you will be focusing down the "agile guy" ASAP. He sometimes magically avoids my Earthen Fury and you're forced to focus down the slime instead. So yeah, hopefully you can smash the agile before slime, but the reverse isn't the end of the world. As it's the final stage, just use everything you have. Limit Break is especially useful here.
Final Stage - Boss
Skills:
- Raging Fists. (No Time bonus on boss)
- Earthen Fury. (No Time bonus on boss)
Boss: Iron Giant type enemy.
This is extremely fun. He’s somewhat easy to counter so abuse him with Raging Fists. Don’t use RF during stagger since it’s more worth it bating a counter.
For Earthen Fury honestly just save it for stagger. You're very unlikely to use it twice.
If you got nothing else going on, try to get precision blocks for the sweet counters. Hopefully you saved up some HP because I prefer to get this done in a slugfest.
Summary and Closing
Titans trial was so fun for me, I forgot to save game after my first S and went for it again happily. It's so satisfying to counter with Raging Fists and Titanic Block. I can imagine that it's not for everyone - but even if you went for a straight up "non fancy clear" it's more than doable I feel.
