Chapter 11 Walkthrough: Pre-notes

Destination: Nibelheim

You'll pass by Tower 1 on the way. Chocobo as well - YOU WANT TO GET THE NIBEL CHOCOBO, TRUST ME.

  • Go up the cliff on the right, pick up the chocobo bait.
  • You have to throw the bait to lead Selena towards the entrance.
  • Wait for the Cactus to deflate then lure her through.
  • As tedious as this is, it's pretty "easy".

  • With the Chocobo you might be tempted to explore, but just go to town for now and get Tower 2 along the way.

    The Terminal

    A Village Changed

Interact with your friends for relationship boost. Aerith at the Water Tower. Tifa in her room. Red at NE exit gate. Yuffie near the NE exit by the Yoga people. Barret at the Inn. Cait Sith at the “Mayors” house, but you can't raise relationship. Talk to them twice!

Enter the inn, then go upstairs to progress.

    Memories Revived

    Prepare for Departure

Varvados Armlet and Garm Bangle are alright. 5 slotters. You get a pair of these on sale in the main story quest for sale down the line. But 1 of each, I guess.

    To the Reactor

    The Rebuilt Bridge

Crystal Gloves (Tifa Weapon) right after you cross the bridge outside the building.

    Riverside Trail

    Mako Spring

There's an HP to MP Materia here... An interesting one...

Once you're back at the surface, when you gotta climb (double Screamer fight), there's a Purple Chest “in the middle of the two paths” with Igneous Saber (Cloud Weapon). Both paths lead to the same place, but take the right one for a Fortification Materia Earrings. There are various chests in both sides of this climb but that's the only “unique” loot.

At the "mountain top", there's a Warding Materia on the SE side (meh, since you can buy ‘em)

    Coming Down the Pipeline

Seems like there's alot that can be hiding here, but, ultimately there's very little. Only Cosmotite Ore is the "relevant" loot here. Take the middle pipe at the topmost floor to get Cosmotite Ore. There's really nothing else here. But if you want to explore...

    Topmost Room

  • LEFT: 2nd 3-Pipe Room
  • MIDDLE: Cosmotite Ore chest room - 4 Pipe Room
  • RIGHT: 4 Pipe Room
  • 2nd 3-Pipe Room

  • LEFT: 4 Pipe Room
  • MIDDLE: 4 Pipe Room
  • RIGHT: 4 Pipe Room
  • 4-Pipe Room

  • PIPE 1: Exit
  • PIPE 2: 2x Screamer Yellow Chest Room - Exit
  • PIPE 3: Exit
  • PIPE 4: 2x Screamer Yellow Chest Room - Exit

  • Locked Out

    Broken Fence

    The Deputy Commissioner

Varvados Bracelet for sale at the resting point.

    Boss: Diabolic Variant

Weak to Ice. Destroy the arm. Honestly, this guy seemed weirdly weak. As long as you have an Ice attack you're good to go.

    Stealthing into Shinra Manor

    Search for the Terminal

    Breaking Out

    Need to Vent

    Buds Behind Bars

To throw: L2 Lift Box, R1, THEN you can aim more finely using the Stick.

To get the Purple Chest throw a box to the switch like you did to save your friends. It's a Golden Megaphone (Cait Sith Weapon).

    Too Short to Reach

    Escape Plan

    Debris Disturbance

    Generator Valve

Pull the cart in the side room giving a place for the boxes to fall on.

Rotating Generator: Throw the box INSIDE it WHILE it's moving. Easiest for me to do left from the broken ladder. It will drop it in once it stops.

Resting place - get the Garm Bangle on sale.

    Insufficient Power

Equip Assess Materia to Cait Sith!

Go up to the Blue Duct twice to face Adjudicator. Then go up blue again to (4F) which has ATK to MATK Materia. Go back to 3F switch red by throwing a box downstairs, then go to the Red Duct.

Hades Armlet right here as you exit the red duct the first time. It's a 7-slot bracelet!

    Weight-Sensitive Generator

Prepare for boss, get Assess, and a Fire Materia on Cait Sith! Item Economizer really helps here in these "solo" fights.

    Boss: Boss Yin & Yang

It always starts off with Yin (Uses Physical, weak to Magic). Use Musical Note attacks, or Fire Spells in this phase. TRY NOT TO STAGGER HERE.

Yang Awakens (Uses Magic, weak to Physical). STAGGER HERE, and slap with 2x Moogle Knuckle. Why? Moogle Knucle is your best skill so make sure he's weak to Physical.

At this point Yin should take over (Enraged). Again use Notes, Fire, Moogle Mines / Magic to finish him off.

    Board the Elevator

Save here, as there's a mini-game, to be safe but there is an autosave before you get on. Why? This box minigame gives you a Stuffed Fat Moogle “toy” for the Seaside Inn if you get 10/10 Boxes.

    Prepare for boss again...

    Input Password

    Boss: Forgotten Specimen

If you spam magic, it becomes strong to it. Spam physical, it becomes strong to that. Physical damage cancels its reflect. Magic damage cancels its shield. Shouldn't be too much trouble if you're safe.

As long as you have a way to do both types, you'll be fine. Arcane Ward from Aerith is a great option for Magic. Moogle Knuckle, good for Physical among other things.

    Through the Door

    Search Resumed

    Case the Joint

Required to use Cait Sith, but at least you can use any party member again. Prepare for yet another boss, but this time it's gonna be a little rough.

    Boss: Galian Beast

Nothing "special" here, interrupting him during some attacks help pressure - but it's hard to do. The main problems here are the severe amounts of damage coming out.

Magnify + Healing REALLY HELPS HERE - you want to keep Regen on your entire team. Other buffs like Haste, Protect, and Barrier help as well. Item Economizer is always welcome to help out with depleting HP and MP.

Using Cloud? Slam Infinity's End on Stagger.

    Overstayed Welcomes

    Boss: Roche

Another boss! haha. This time it's 1v1 with Cloud. Like all 1v1's, Healing, buffs, and Item Economizer are great. If your Cloud isn't set up, just lose and pick “restart before battle”.

Dodge Stygian Chains and pressure him after. Same goes with his other skills, he gets pressured after you evade and counter his "skills".

Once Staggered, send it in with an Infinity's End, which will do A LOT.

    Smoke Sent Up

    Return to the Gold Saucer

    Onto Chapter 12!
