Chapter 8 Walkthrough: Pre-notes
Chapter 8 deals with the events in the Gold Saucer initially. It's very difficult for me to draw the line between optional content and not. So I'll try my best to make this as concise as possible, while providing maximum tips.
Good luck out there up and about the Saucer! Don't bother exploring ASAP.
REMINDER: If you missed it, there's a Revival Materia at North Corel town. Jump off a ledge in front of the doctors office.
Gilded Paradise
Away from the Glitz and Glamour
Tonberry Suite

Rest Up
A Visitor
Here, you'll be paired up with either Tifa or Aerith, depending on relationship level presumably. Hopefully you got the one you want!
Paint the Town Red
So, here, you're REQUIRED to visit the other squares, but you are NOT required to play any mini-games. But, I highly recommend getting the SKILLBOOKS at the very least. Dont worry, you can come back to the Gold Saucer later.
When trading in points, you can do so at ANY shop just L2 / R2 to cycle between them. I noticed this late and manually went to each, haha.
Chapter 8: Minigame quick tips
Aside from skillbooks, none of the max rank rewards are really worth it IF you don't like the games. Again, you can always come back. Want to farm points? I recommend the punchy game. But, again, don't sweat it as you'll be back. Don't bother with the 2500 point Level Up Materia at least just yet.
Skillbooks available right now?
Everything else is up to you, even the above are purely optional, but you might as well.
Battle Square (Colosseum)
There's lots of AoE needed here. If you're with Aerith you got Spell Blade to cheese this. Otherwise, use Tifa's Gale skill (what's the name...). Plasma Discharge from Enemy Skill is godly for AoE too.
There's some "bosses" too. Quetzalcoatl can be rough, but careful play will get you through. As for Mindflayer - HIDE BEHIND THE ROCKS (so the rock is in between you and Mindflayer) to prevent being one-shot killed. Your NPC's will hide as well if you do.
Speed Square (Space Battle)
Get "squad kills" for bonus points. Triangle is a "bomb" that charges quickly as long as you use one at a time. Use multiple only in desperation. Not as difficult as you might imagine.
Gold Saucer Queensblood
If you're into QB, this is a fast way to get some points.
G-Bike
I dislike G-Bike with a passion. I did one run and called it. Sorry if I can't help you here.
Pixel Punchy (name? haha)
Cute little game that's pretty quick, and my default choice for quickly farming points if you need to, at this point of the game. Again, don't sweat it too much.
...Done with the games?
Mop up the other objectives and get going. Once you visited all the Squares, the Skywheel is where you progress the quest.
Tragedy
Guide Moogle
Proof of Innocence
The Dustbowl
Cold Reception
Meeting your Mount
Lots happened ey. Umbral Blade (Cloud Weapon) in the Purple Chest right as you exit the prison. Can't miss it. You'll be SOLO CLOUD for a bit.
Gearing up for the Race
You need to gather three (2 minimum, maybe?) Sylkis Greens. Each gated behind one mini-quest. But, you have to "manually find" the people willing to give you greens.
Take Down the QB Players
Talking to the NPC in House of Cards triggers this. Beat 'em all and you get Sylkis Greens.
Stalkers?
Beside the QB playing area, there are some thugs. Follow along their goading and eventually you fight them - getting a Sylkis Greens for your trouble.
The Bartender's Untended Garden
The bartender (near the notice board) gives you keys to the garden. It's a long walk, with some battles. There's an HP Up below where you cross a thin pipe.
More Optional Stuff...
You unlock three more OPTIONAL activities, which, YOU CAN COMPLETE THESE ANY TIME. The only relevant reward is Dragon Claws (Tifa Weapon) from a max rank Desert Rush which is a little tedious in itself.
It's up to you, whatever you want to do or not. Once you're done - it's off to the races.
Bug Boy
Practice Makes Perfect
IDK if you're forced to do the simulation race, and you should… The race isn't that hard actually. Recommended Chocobo Gear: Tropical Visor / ANY / Tropical Legwraps (name?). Don't min max your Chocobo yet, the race is easy for now.
Be a Good Tourist
Prisoner
Purple chest on the right at the very entrance of this quest zone is Vulcan Cannon (Barret Weapon).
Old Friends
Boss: Dyne
Weak to fire. Damage and destroying parts pressures him. You can't dodge “Point Blank”, or block it. For Materia, go all out. Healing, Item Economizer, Elemental + Fire.
“I wanna see them again, and I know what I need to do. But I can't. I just can't.”
Shinra Arrives
Boss: Anuran Suppressor
Weak to lightning. Limit, or Synergy Abilities will flip it over, hitting the cockpit while it's flipped over deals good damage. While Palmer's taunting you, doing big damage pressures it.
Usual robot shenanigans. Enemy Skill Plasma Discharge. Once Palmer pops out use any fast and strong skill to pressure. Shouldn't pose much of a threat.
Manhunt
Explosion
And with that... You're done with the Dustbowl. But If you're that kind of player... the Gold Saucer ain't dont with you yet!
Reminder: Cait Sith joins your party after, and with him comes the all-important MAGNIFY MATERIA, which turns linked materia into "target all".
Chapter 8 Walkthrough: Closing notes
Right at the end you can FINALLY DO COREL WORLD INTEL!
Well, Chapter 8 FELT pretty long for me... I did alot of the games. It was pretty enjoyable though. Hopefully the walkthrough helped you out!
