Chapter 4 Walkthrough: Pre-notes

HOLD OFF ON EXPLORING, AGAIN. There's a key point where it becomes "worth".
Don't worry, it's not far.

This is a LONG CHAPTER. And I suppose you can think of it as two halves. "Under" and "Topside". There is a "point of no return", but don't worry the game will tell you very clearly warning you when that it. So will I, here.

FLYING ENEMIES!!! Every character has ways to deal with them, but they're not "obvious". Synergy Abilities! These are amazing, and I suppose this chapter "forces" us to interact with that system. Cloud, notably, has a dodge-attack which releases ranged waves.

The Fortress

Once you reach Gabes Ranch, TAKE THE SIDEQUEST HERE (Stuck in a Rut). Yeahp! It leads to the Chocobo of this region. But DO NOT COMPLETE IT. Just do it until you have Chocobo access. Trust me.

If you wanna get some value, you can get a tower or two after the sidequest and buy Lightning and Wind materia from Chadley so it starts gaining AP. You'll need these elements here, too. Alot.

Speaking of materia you can buy Luck Up Materia from the shops. Personally, I recommend buying and leveling 2 pieces for now.

Under a Steel Sky

Fact-Finding

Turning In

New Queensblood opponents! If you missed any of the Weapons in Grasslands, you can buy them here as well.

There's an HP Up Materia “downstairs”, a staircase up from the Beach on the side. Speaking of HP Up, this would be your third (enough for all party members that are being used), but if you wanna level up extras you can buy HP Up here too.

Trouble Brewing

Washed Ashore

Boss: Terror of the Deep

You can pressure it by crippling the tail fin, or attacking its head in water. Defeat Water Cells (the bubbles that trap your friends) to free them ASAP. Magic Damage is better against these bubbles. Both are weak to Lightning, while the boss is also strong against Ice and Fire.

Twilight in a Sunless Town

Respite

Talk to your friends at the Inn. You can talk and enter Aerith's room after the small cutscene, even if she just closes the door, lol. The chest in her room is a Weapon for Aerith, Empress Scepter (what a coincidence). There's another lightning materia just ahead of Cloud's Room.

Well Earned Rest

Friends Together Again

Priscilla's Plan

Proceeding here is the point of no return, and the perfect place to start your Junon side content.

Chapter 4 Walkthrough: Middle Note

Roughly halfway, I suppose? If you want to do side content, NOW IS THE TIME! If you still haven't gotten the important materias I mentioned earlier, get them now.

If you're gonna do side stuff: START WITH THE SIDEQUEST "When Words Won't Do". Why? It's essentially a tour of the Junon zone which brings you to what, near 5 towers? And leads you right to the next questing hub!

  • Lightning and Wind Materia (from Chadley): Pair with Fire and Ice for all elements!
  • Luck Up (from Shops): Each character can use a maximum of 2 of these. Buy 2 for now, I suppose. This affects Critical Hit Rate, and Steal Chance.

  • Ready to Fly

Trust when the game says "you can't come back for quite some time".

    Dolphin Show

You don't actually have to correctly pass by each arrow's side, more important is the bumping into beach balls for more speed.

    The Shiplift

    Linking Up

    Infiltration

    In Search of Lost Robes

Lost? Need to take the elevator NE side of the deck.

    Going Down

    Fatigues

    Out of the Civvies

There's a Survival Vest in a chest nearby where Tifa and Aerith are changing. Repeatedly approach the changing rooms for some bonus voice lines.

    Hello, Old Friend

    Rain on His Parade

    The Seventh Infantry

    No “I” in “Team

Mahiko San Note: Hmm.. Want to find them yourself? This is technically a spoiler!
Need more help finding them? See: Where are the Junon Parade Soldiers - Locations

So, where are the soldiers for the Junon Parade? Listen to the dialogue, it's pretty cool. Here's a super quick summary for the parade soldier locations.

  • Main road, south of quest waypoint, taking pictures with Rufus cutout.
  • Left side of main road, along the railings, looking at the cannon.
  • In the "Item + Materia" shop.
  • NE side of town, upstairs, in the Le Sourire Bar.
  • Across the bar, there's the Larboard Garrison. Check the basement.
  • Southeast side of town. Shop w/ "Bald guy and shades logo" (The Glabrescent).
  • Weapon store, downstairs. Quite the hobby these guys have.
  • Barracks 3F it's the building in the "middle right-ish".
  • Barracks 4F. Yep, there's another floor.
  • Folio Shop, 2nd floor. "Shopping Center", Middle of town.
  • (I wrote these down as I found them, so it might not be the most efficient path)

As long as your formation includes 2x Grenadiers, 2x Riot Troopers and a Flametrooper, you'll get the maximum possible stars.

Mahiko San Note: Again, if you need more help finding them:
    See: Junon Parade Soldiers Locations

Ace the parade, and you get an Achievement - Stealing the Show! I feel this is important to mention for those who might not want to miss it. You don't need perfect scores, you just need to beat the other guys.

    Time to Pay, Shinra

    Ninja Ops

    Hue and Cry

Finally a savepoint. The chest here is a Rune Blade Weapon for Cloud. Use healing materia - you need to keep your men alive! Equip Fire materia, and Lightning if you can. (Use both of the pair materia?). During your journey here, talking to the random bystander soldiers gives some items.

    Boss: Roche

Use Fire spell to pressure, and Focused Thrust to stagger. While you have no ATB, it's hard to hit him - use your dodge attack to launch the waves at him. It's better than nothing. He shouldn't see 2 Staggers, should pretty much be dead after the first.

    Junon Harbor

    Friends Await

    The Back Door

    Onwards to Chapter 5!
