If you're here, it means you wanna know more about BG3 Cleric starting stats in BG3. Here, i'll give you some good setups, options, and why. If starting stats have confused you in the past, don't worry, you're not alone. You can respec so don't worry about it too much.
Recommended BG3 Cleric starting stats
If you don't wanna read too much into it, here's a TLDR for Cleric. This would be my answer "if I was FORCED to provide ONE SETUP" that might please as many people as possible.
In the case of Cleric, however, I will provide two templates - since the class has A BUNCH of possible paths. I hope one of these will give you insight on how to go forward.
BG3's Implementation of Clerics...?
While WIS is definitely the Cleric "main stat" in 5e... BG3 specifically mentions WIS helping you with weapon attacks? I'll investigate this and update if needed. Either way, we're getting 16+ WIS no matter what.
Heavy Armor STR Melee Cleric
This is for the more common type of "battle cleric" we imagine. You "NEED" to select a domain with Heavy Armor proficiency. Either Life, Nature, Tempest, or War.
- Strength: 14. Base 14 No Modifiers.
- Dexterity: 10. Base 10 No Modifiers.
- Constitution: 16. Base 14 +2 Ability Score Modifier.
- Intelligence: 8. Base 8 No Modifiers.
- Wisdom: 16. Base 15 +1 Ability Score Modifier.
- Charisma: 10. Base 10 No Modifiers.
Stick to STR based melee, and Heavy Armor (you NEED the proficiency for it). Getting the Heavy Armor Master Feat brings you up to 15 STR for the ultra-heavy armor pre-requisites.
The "8" Stat can be either INT or CHA. Try to leave DEX at 10.
Light/Medium Armor, Finesse/Ranged DEX Cleric
- Strength: 10. Base 10 No Modifiers.
- Dexterity: 14. Base 14 No Modifiers.
- Constitution: 16. Base 14 +2 Ability Score Modifier.
- Intelligence: 8. Base 8 No Modifiers.
- Wisdom: 16. Base 15 +1 Ability Score Modifier.
- Charisma: 10. Base 10 No Modifiers.
Stick to finesse and support ranged fire, along with Light or Medium armor. Works with any of the Cleric domains.
The "8" Stat can be either INT or CHA. STR is better left at 10 for combat checks.
Nature Domain? Options, options...
First of all I have to point out Nature Domain. It gives a Cantrip which "converts" your weapon into a "Wisdom-based" melee weapon. Not bad at all... You can potentially move your stats around in this case...
As you can see, there are many many ways to build Clerics - but hopefully one of these starting stats setups set you in the right direction. Again, you can respec if you really need to.
BG3 Cleric starting stats: Why?
The summary for Cleric is:
WIS > CON >= STR OR DEX (depending on type): most important. CHA > INT: lesser importance.
Strength
If going for Heavy Armor and weaponry - this is it (if so, don't go DEX).
Dexterity
If you're going for Light / Medium armor and Ranged or Finesse weapons - this is it (if so, don't go STR).
Constitution
Is always good to have. More HP / Survivability.
Intelligence
Doesn't have much of a use for Cleric.
Wisdom
Your "main stat" for Clerics. Does a bunch of things.
Charisma
Doesn't have much of a use for Cleric.
Summary and Closing
Clerics can be a little rough, but I suppose this is the best I can do to guide someone who is cofused on what starting stats a Cleric should choose in BG3. Maybe specific build guides in the future.
I'll be adding a little more to this in the future. BG3 Cleric starting stats in a nutshell! Doesn't have to be rocket science! if you needed a little push - I hope you found it here.
