Charisma Stat Guide
Info on the Charisma stat in Baldurs Gate 3, what it does, what it affects.
If you're here, you're curious about what exactly Charisma does in BG3. Charisma is one of the Primary Stats - formally called "Abilities" in BG3. Commonly Charisma is abbreviated as CHA. Like all stats, they have various effects to your character in and out of combat.
Charisma Effects in BG3
Charisma Modifier: Like all other stats, Charisma has a modifier based on how much CHA you have. Having 8 CHA means you have a -1 Modifier (penalty). 10 is neutral, meaning you get a +0 CHA modifier. Then for every 2 you have after 10 gives you another +1 to your Charisma modifier.
Spellcasting Ability for Some Classes
Wisdom is the primary spellcasting ability stat for these classes:
- Paladin
- Sorcerer
- Warlock
Spellcasting ability affects many aspects of casting spells (damage, "hit chance", to put it simply)
Skills that rely on Charisma
Most skill checks are affected by a specific modifier. In the case of Charisma Modifiers:
- Deception
- Intimidation
- Performance
- Persuasion
When performing these skills checks, your CHA Modifier is added to your roll.
Charisma has, without a doubt, THE MOST USED NON-COMBAT NON-EXPLORATION SKILLS. Basically, the king of dialogue based skills. As such, high Charisma characters make great "Party Leader", or "Face of the Party" types. Highly recommended!
Charisma Saving Throws
Every stat has a saving throw. The myriad actions and effects in BG3 which require you to "save" to either blunt or cancel out the effect are typically based on stats. Charisma is no different.
Charisma Saving Throws are pretty rare, though.
Summary and Closing
Charisma, or rather Charisma based characters make GREAT "party leaders". Sorcerer and Warlock for your caster types, and Paladin for your knightly types. Having one as your "main character" really opens up the dialogue options. I would go out on a limb to say CHA based dialogue rolls are the most common, and are easily the most prevalent in terms of offering "alternative" solutions.
