Which Dwarf Subrace is best?
Inevitably this question will always come up! If I had to answer what the "best" Subrace for Dwarf is Duergar. Why? Improved Darkvision (extra 12m is legit), and extra protection against some of the most crippling CC is much better than a little bit of HP, or some basic armor proficiencies.
This depends on your goals, of course, but If I had to recommend one, this would be it.
Best Classes for Dwarf in BG3?
Dwarves (notably Duergar) are a very decent choice for any class. Again, there's no "anti-synergy" with any class. The main downside to consider is their lower movement speed. 7.5m compared to the usual 9m.
It's hard to give a specific answer but the best classes for Dwarf are any class that:
- Wants the axe proficiencies, but doesn't get the via their class for some unique builds.
- Wants to improve "defenses": Extra defense against Poison, Illusions, Charmed, Paralyzed.
Note that there's no right or wrong answer here, haha. There's always a crazy build out there, flavor or RP, or a plethora of other reasons to choose Dwarf over another with any combination!
Dwarf in BG3 vs. 5e: Differences
Wondering about the main differences of the Dwarf race in Baldurs Gate 3 vs. DnD 5e?
One of the biggest things is, we can use the Duergars great benefits without the "debuff" in 5E which is essentially a disadvantage in sunlight - which would be a MASSIVE downside if it was in BG3.
A huge "nerf" to Dwarves in BG3 (and many subtypes) lose their stat bonuses - which was one of their big advantages - and instead shares the same stat bonuses with all other races.

Obviously one of the main blanket changes (I mentioned it above), all races in BG3 get a free +2 and +1 to any two stats of choice, as well as racial stat bonuses being removed.
Summary and Closing
That about wraps it up for BG3's Dwarf race!
