Note that all races in BG3 gain a +2 and +1 bonus to ANY two Ability Points ("stats") during character creation or while respeccing. And most, if not all racially tied stat bonuses are not present.

Githyanki Race Basic Information

Here's a summary of the basic racial "traits" of Githyanki in BG3.

Race Features:

Base Racial Speed: 9m per turn.

Martial Prodigy: Armor Proficiency - Light Armor, Medium Armor. Weapon Proficiency - Shortsword, Longsword, Greatsword.

Race Actions: Astral Knowledge - Gain Proficiency in all Skills of a chosen Ability:

Race Cantrips: Mage Hand - Create a spectral hand that can manipulate and interact with objects.

Githyanki has NO Subraces in BG3.

Best Classes for Githyanki in BG3?

Githyanki is an excellent choice for almost every class. Mage Hand amd Astral Knowledge are amazing (usually out of combat). These skills are great for conversation and exploration - while also having some potential in combat.

But if I was to give a straight answer, the best classes for Githyanki are:

• Classes that want sword proficiencies: Casters, non-martial classes, for some more unique builds.
• CHA classes (Paladin, Warlock, Sorcerer, Bard): For the purposes of making a "giga party leader", given the possible bonuses to skill proficiencies.

Note that there's no right or wrong answer here, haha. There's always a crazy build out there, flavor or RP, or a plethora of other reasons to choose Githyanki over another with any combination!

Githyanki in BG3 vs. 5e: Differences

Wondering about the main differences of the Githyanki race in Baldurs Gate 3 vs. DnD 5e?

Githyanki aren't pare of the base 5e, but surprisingly it's pretty close to what's in 5e.

In BG3 they get Astral Knowledge, which is a pretty huge buff. Some implementations of Gith only get a choice Skill Proficiency.

In 5E, various Gith usually have a stat bonus of STR+2, INT+1. I don't know yet if you get the higher level Gith Psionics cantrips in BG3.
