BG3 Alert Feat

Info on the Alert BG3 Feat. Tips, when to use, is it worth it, is it good?

Alert is one of the Feats in Baldurs Gate 3. Here's a short guide on it on what it does (and clarifications), as well as "is Alert good?" "is Alert worth it?".

Alert Effects

As per the in-game description: Gain +5 Initiative, and you can't be Surprised..

Alert mechanics clarifications

Initiative defines the turn order. This helps you act first or very near first every combat and turn thereafter.

What does it mean to be Surprised? You can't move or take an action on your first turn of the combat, and you can't take a reaction until that turn ends. A member of a group can be surprised even if the other members aren't. Surprise checks are the ambushers Stealth vs the victims Perception.

Is Alert worth it?

So, is Alert good? When would you take Alert? It's pretty decent. But, I don't consider it a universal one. Makes a good thematic Feat for Rogues, Rangers or DEX characters.

+5 Initiative allows you to go first very very often. Being first to act each turn is pretty good. Surprise is a nasty "debuff" that this cancels out.

How useful the anti-surprise is, depends on all the encounter designs. Honestly, though, you can cheesily anti-surprise if you've died to that encounter already AKA savescum lol.

Summary and Closing
