BG3 Defensive Duellist Feat
Info on the Defensive Duellist BG3 Feat. Tips, when to use, is it worth it, is it good?
Defensive Duellist is one of the Feats in Baldurs Gate 3. Here's a short guide on it on what it does (and clarifications), as well as "is Defensive Duellist good?" "is Defensive Duellist worth it?". BG3 spells this out as "Defensive Duellist", which seems to be a typo...
Defensive Duellist Effects
As per the in-game description: When attacked while wielding a Finesse Weapon you're Proficient with, you can use a reaction to add your Proficiency Bonus to your Armour Class, possibly causing the attack to miss..
Defensive Duellist mechanics clarifications
You get a Reaction once per turn. This can be used on many "reactionary" type effects.
Finesse Weapons use Dexterity for damage and attack rolls. It's on the weapon tooltip to see whether it's a Finesse Weapon or not.
Proficiency starts as a +2 to your rolls. Proficiency increases to +3/+4/+5 at Level 5/9/13.
Is Defensive Duellist worth it?
So, is Defensive Duellist good? When would you take Defensive Duellist? My range is from "Not good" to "Situational". At best, you'll "be more likely" to dodge one attack per turn. Against bosses this might feel a little better, but with multiple enemies potentially hitting you it's worse. Even then, there are other ways to improve your tankiness. But, to be fair, over a LONG FIGHT this then becomes one of the better traits at preserving your HP.
