BG3 Mage Slayer Feat

Info on the Mage Slayer BG3 Feat. Tips, when to use, is it worth it, is it good?

Mage Slayer is a Feat in Baldurs Gate 3. Here's a short guide on it on what it does (and clarifications), as well as "is Mage Slayer good?" "is Mage Slayer worth it?".

Mage Slayer Effects

As per the in-game description: When a creature casts a spell within melee range of you, you have Advantage on any Saving Throw against it, and you can use a reaction to immediately make an attack against the caster. Enemies you hit have Disadvantage on Concentration Saving Throws..

Mage Slayer mechanics clarifications

Advantage means rolling two dice, and taking the higher result.

Disadvantage means rolling two dice, and taking the lower result.

Concentration checks are to "hold" spell effects upon taking damage or otherwise being disrupted. Failing the check means the spell also "fails". Typically based on CON.

You gain one Reaction a turn. Used to, well, react to things...

Is Mage Slayer worth it?

So, is Mage Slayer good? When would you take Mage Slayer? NICHE. Obviously, amazing versus magic users. The feat has quite a few parts to it so lets check it out...

Advantage on any Saving Throw against spells cast in melee range. A huge bonus upon getting into "business" range against magic users.

Using a reaction is pre-emptively attack casters is actually amazing. You can break concentrations or outright kill them before they get the spell off.

Enemies have Disadvantage on Concentration Saving Throws with any melee attack you make against them. Well, good luck maintaining any buffs or effects while a Mage Slayer is next to you.

Ultimately, the benefits of the traits are obvious against a certain enemy type. Against mages all of this put together is massive. The flip side is, well, it having no effect at all.

Thematically this feat is great. The "anti-magic" character or "class" is a common archetype and this feat is a shoe-in for that.
