BG3 Shield Master - Feat
Info on the Shield Master BG3 Feat. Tips, when to use, is it worth it, is it good?
Shield Master is a Feat in Baldurs Gate 3. Here's a short guide on it on what it does (and clarifications), as well as "is Shield Master good?" "is Shield Master worth it?".
Shield Master Effects
As per the in-game description: You gain a +2 bonus to Dexterity Saving Throws while wielding a shield. If a spell forces you to make a Dexterity Saving Throw, you can use a reaction to shield yourself and diminish the damage. On a Saving Throw, you only take half damage. On a successful Saving Throw ,you don't take any damage..
Shield Master mechanics clarifications
A lot of spells use DEX saving throws to "dodge" them, either halving damage or eliminating it completely. With the Reaction gained from this feat, as per how I understand it, upgrades the saving throw to halve damage on fail, and no damage on success.
You gain one Reaction a turn.
Is Shield Master worth it?
So, is Shield Master good? When would you take Shield Master? No. With how it's implemented in BG3, Shield Master seems like an "anti-magic" feat primarily. Yes, there are other non-magic DEX saving throws that this helps. But, lets say that's important to you, simply adding 2 DEX gives half of this effect plus other bonuses for just improving the DEX stat itself.
I don't know, it just doesn't seem worth it. You might miss it against some very powerful mage enemies but that's the only time id use it (respec ,lol).
