BG3 Book of Dead Gods Guide

What to do in in the Book of Dead Gods scenario in Baldurs Gate 3. Choices, Consequences, etc.

So you found the Book of Dead Gods at the Ruins in Act I, and wondering what to do with it? Well I hope you open up to the possibilities and let's get flippin' into it!

TLDR RECOMMENDATION: Use Gale for the "best chances" by default. You really can't "lose" on this one. No matter how you open it, you'll always get the "main reward". There isn't a wrong choice, or puts you in any real danger...

The Book of Dead Gods can be found on a table in a room east of the "main room" of the Dank Crypt (where you found Withers).

You have three options to open the book. Arcana, Strength, and Intelligence. Succeeding in any of these opens the book and funnily enough no matter which method you choose you'll get the "a page comes with it" dialogue. Hmm...

No matter how you open it, you don't get a bonus or penalty to the end result.

I suppose the only risk is failing all three options, Which I couldn't do no matter how hard I tried. Presumably you then cannot open the book which isn't a big deal anyway.

A Religion check follows. Succeeding this gives a little extra lore, and some EXP / Inspiration for certain backgrounds. failing it ends the scenario. You can also "leave" the Book of Dead gods scenario here. I assume you can pass the book to another party member with a better religion check here if you wish, and open it from your inventory.

An Investigation check follows, with no rolls. Succeeding this gives more EXP / Inspirtation for other backgrounds, but nothing else - along with some more little lines of lore. Failing this doesn't really matter or change the outcome much. No matter the result, the Book of Dead Gods scenario ends here.
