If you're here, it means you wanna know more about BG3 Paladin starting stats in BG3. Here, i'll give you some good setups, options, and why. If starting stats have confused you in the past, don't worry, you're not alone. You can respec so don't worry about it too much.

Recommended BG3 Paladin starting stats

If you don't wanna read too much into it, here's a TLDR for Paladin. This would be my answer "if I was FORCED to provide ONE SETUP" that might please as many people as possible.

As long as you as much CHA as you can grab, you can't really go wrong with Paladin. While Oath of Vengeance is what I have in mind, any subclass should work with these setups.

  • Strength: 14. Base 14 No Modifiers. CAN SWAP W/ CON.
  • Dexterity: 10. Base 10 No Modifiers.
  • Constitution: 16. Base 14 +2 Ability Score Modifier. CAN SWAP W/ STR.
  • Intelligence: 8. Base 8 No Modifiers.
  • Wisdom: 10. Base 10 No Modifiers.
  • Charisma: 16. Base 15 +1 Ability Score Modifier.

Maximize Charisma with starting stats since it's your Paladins "main stat".

14 STR 16 CON? Or Vice Versa? Both have their ups and downs, but 16 CON might be the better choice for what most people imagine their Paladin being able to do - tanking stuff. Taking Heavy Armor Master also perfectly gives you the 15th point for the more extreme heavy armor reqs. (Now where to find that 16th point!?).

Obviously if you reverse with, with 16 STR 14 CON you'll have a more offensive Paladin which is fine too, and fits with what many other people imagine Paladins are doing as well - destroying dudes. Two solid options

You like Finesse Weapons? Ranged? If you somehow find yourself here, then replace all discussions of "STR" with "DEX" in the above paragraphs, and throw away any notion of Heavy Armor and you're good to go.

Don't like negative bonuses? I heavily recommend AGAINST this, as Paladins "need" or can use a bunch of stats. If you must, reduce either STR or CON to shore it up.

Options options...

There's alot of shenanigans you can do with Paladin. Keep in mind that Heavy Armor Master is a decent feat so it's a way to fix an odd STR value. Either way, there's enough suggestions above to get you started.

As a Paladin, starting stats or otherwise - don't slack on Charisma!

BG3 Paladin starting stats: Why?

The summary for Paladin is:
CHA > CON >= STR: most important. DEX > WIS > INT: lesser importance.

Strength

Melee Damage, Heavy Armor usage (15 for the best possible).

Dexterity

AC on medium and light armor, or finesse weapon damage (not for these setups).

Constitution

Is always good to have. More HP / Survivability.

Intelligence

Doesn't have much of a use for Paladin.

Wisdom

Doesn't have much of a use for Paladin.

Charisma

The "main stat" of Paladins, get as much of this as you can.

Summary and Closing

I'll be adding a little more to this in the future. BG3 Paladin starting stats in a nutshell! Doesn't have to be rocket science! if you needed a little push - I hope you found it here.
