BG3 War Caster - Feat
Info on the War Caster BG3 Feat. Tips, when to use, is it worth it, is it good?
War Caster is a Feat in Baldurs Gate 3. Here's a short guide on it on what it does (and clarifications), as well as "is War Caster good?" "is War Caster worth it?".
War Caster Effects
As per the in-game description: You gain Advantage on Saving Throws to maintain Concentration on a spell. You can also use a reaction to cast Shocking Grasp at a target moving out of melee ranfge..
Has a pre-requisite(s): The ability to cast at least one spell.
War Caster mechanics clarifications
Constitution saving throws are to maintain your spell effects after "disruptions" (most of the time, attacks). These are based on your CON.
You gain one Reaction per turn.
Shocking Grasp is a "melee" touch-ish spell that does Lightning Damage.
Is War Caster worth it?
So, is War Caster good? When would you take War Caster? NOT NORMALLY. It's a very very niche feat with many cool effects but to maximize it you need very very specific builds. They can be "cool", or "fun", or even "efficient" - but it's not a feat you'd take "out of the blue".
The Advantage on Concentration Saving Throw is one of the best components of this feat, but you can get that exact effect taking the Resilient feat and selecting CON.
Having this locked to Shocking Grasp only is a little weird. If you can somehow scale your Shocking Grasp to absurd heights, this would be a key factor for a build that's using this.
This is a cool feat, and useful too. Giving casters a "good" Opportunity Attack. Sadly, being Exclusive to Shocking Grasp is a bit of a problem you need to work around.
Summary and Closing
