Hello and welcome to out Division 2 World Tier guide! World Tiers are essentially higher “difficulty settings” that you unlock after completing certain tasks. Going up a world tier should be very high in your priorities in progression as they increase the Gear Score softcap on loot, and unlock new content – which are things everyone wants!

I’ll talk about various things down the line, but first and foremost you’re likely here to learn how to increase your world tier.

Division 2: How to increase World Tier?

Going up a world tier has certain requirements that are a bit different each time.

World Tier 0 to 1

World Tier 0 to 1

  • Reach Level 30
  • Complete all main missions
  • Complete the three basic strongholds.
    • District Union Area (Req L26)
    • Roosevelt Island (Req L28)
    • Capitol Building (Req L30)

A pretty basic set of requirements, most if not all players will unknowingly increase their world tier to 1 without even trying.

World Tier 1 to 2

World Tier 1 to 2

  • Complete any of the basic strongholds, and 2 of its prerequisite invaded missions.
  • Requires Gear Score of 275 to attempt the stronghold.

Contrary to popular belief YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THEM IN ORDER.
IE you DO NOT have to start with District Union or end with Capitol.

Once you’re at WT1 the Black Tusk essentially “invade”, and setup shop as the new badass faction. Highlighting a stronghold will trace a line to both of its prerequisite invaded missions. You must complete both of these missions to attempt the stronghold.

These strongholds and missions will be slightly different from their standard counterparts as they’re now “invaded” by the Black Tusk faction.

World Tier 2 to 3

World Tier 2 to 3

  • Complete either of the remaining basic strongholds, and 2 of its prerequisite invaded missions.
  • Requires Gear Score of 325 to attempt the stronghold.

Same process as above, pretty much. Simply choose which one of the two remaining strongholds you want to unlock and beat. Lets say you chose District Union Area for WT1 to WT2, then choose either Capitol Building or Roosevelt Island next.

Again, you can determine the prerequisite missions by highlighting the stronghold and following the traces.

World Tier 3 to 4

World Tier 3 to 4

  • Complete the last remaining basic strongholds, and 2 of its prerequisite invaded missions.
  • Requires Gear Score of 375 to attempt the stronghold.

Same process as 2 and 3, and you’re down to your last basic stronghold.

Again, you can determine the prerequisite missions by highlighting the stronghold and following the traces.

World Tier 4 to 5

World Tier 4 to 5

  • Complete Stronghold: Tidal Basin
  • Requires Gear Score of 425 to attempt the Tidal Basin.

Unlike the previous world tiers, Tidal Basin only has one prerequisite mission, which is very near the White House, a little to the south. It’s a simple and fast mission without combat!

World Tiers: Basics and FAQ’s

While there’s a lot to learn about world tiers, I assume many questions are answered with this table:

World Tier Gear Score Softcap Notes & New Unlocks
0 250 NA
1 300 Black Tusk, invaded missions & strongholds.
2 350 (?)
3 400 Heroic Bounties (?)
4 450 Control Point Alert Levels.

Typically you can only break this softcap via proficiency caches and re-calibration. I’m also a little unclear on what gets unlocked in WT2/3 if any… please chime in.

World Tiers, for the most part, act as increased difficulty levels with increased rewards, increasing the “difficulty tier” of your version of the map. Advancing World Tiers also unlock new activities and content (IE WT1 and Black Tusk, WT4 introduces Control Point levels). World Tiers increase the minimum gear score of loot that drops, and applies a new softcap to the maximum that can drop.

How important is progressing through World Tiers? I would say very. I would peg it at the highest priority for endgame progression in Division 2. Better loot, more things to do…

Should I prevent increasing World Tier to make my life easier? Unless you’re a specific brand of coward, no. I can only think of one very niche scenario wherein I would want to hold back on upping my WT but It’s not even worth discussing… Just do it and enjoy the newfound challenge.

How long should I stay in a World Tier? Only as long as necessary. Once you can attempt the requirements, do it. If you need to grind a bit more, then do it after your attempt is my advice.

Well that’s about it for World Tiers in Division 2. TLDR: Increasing your WT should always be on the top of your list of things to do – only getting sidetracked if you simply CANNOT progress. Good luck out there, Agent!
