Hey guys! In this guide, we talk about the fastest / best speed farming builds for Barbadian in Diablo 3! Right now, the best build template is Wastes 6 Whirlwind / Rend. Unlike days old, “Rend” must now be mentioned as it’s the primary source of damage via Ambo’s Pride!

This is the first pass for all classes speedfarming guide updates:

Build General Notes & Options

I’ll be adding more of these notes and evolutions soon – I just want to finish the first pass for all classes first. – BRGMahiko

Whirlwind is one of the, if not the, ULTIMATE speedfarming builds. I mean, you’re MOVING, “WHILE”, farming man. You can play this build with one-hand and obliterate your enemies!

Equipment Notes

The main “option” here is wether to go Captain Crimson or not. For many reasons I choose the CC version of the build for speedfarming. That being said, our build becomes less flexible in terms of equipment slots.

Unity (or Band of Might) are technically open slots – you don’t NEED them but you will DIE without a defensive ring. I prefer Unity for speedfarming since I can add another utility skill (without having to use ground stomp or something). Of course, if you’re too soft go for BoM as the damage reduction is quite huge.

Nemesis can be traded in for Mortick’s Brace for more difficult content – the toughness gain via Damage Reduction and Life per Fury spent runes is INTENSE. Amulet can be anything, really. Flavor of Time simply for the “speed farm” aspect of it, but Hellfire, or any well rolled amulet is fine.

Cube Notes

All three cube slots are locked in, and all are required for the build to work.

Sage Set (Deaths Breath Farming)? Cain?

You can easily accomodate these farming sets as a 1 to 1 replacement to Captain Crimsons set (Belt, Boots). You will lose some damage and toughness, though so be wary. Don’t be afraid to lower the Torment level if your clear speed suffers.

Skill Notes

Rend, Whirlwind, and Wrath of the Berserker are locked in. Rends rune is set in stone – Bloodbath is too good. Whirlwind can be anything, Blood Funnel or even Hurricane. Wrath of the Berserker Is typically Insanity but can be changed into Striding Giant, I suppose.

Warcry – Veterans Warning (or Impunity) and Blood Rage are the next best things with Barb. While these skills are technically open, you’d need a GOOD REASON not to use ’em. Blood Rage runes can help you with more DPS or healing, if needed.

That leaves us with only one “true” open skill slot, which is Sprint (Marathon). This skill has the highest impact on your speed, but typically this gets changed out to Ground Stomp if you need to use Band of Might for the content you’re tackling.

Passive Notes

Boon of Bul-Kathos is the ONLY required passive IMO. After that, your two best “always working” offensive passives are Berseker Rage and Rampage. The next best DPS passive is Ruthless which is pretty bad. Brawler is iffy at times. So I’d rather have a defense / utility passive instead or a fourth DPS one.

For toughness, if you need it, take Relentless, Nerves of Steel,  Superstition, or Tough as Nails. The exact best one depends on a lot of factors, but that’s roughly ordered by usefulness.

If you’re looking for more speed, Pound of Flesh is probably better than a fourth DPS passive!

Stats and Reroll Notes

The first problem people face when rerolling for this build is “how much CDR to keep Wrath of the Berserker up”. Honestly this is different for tryhard versions of this build and “speedfarming only”. CDR on Shoulders and on Zodiac are a must. The rest? Hmm, I’d give up CHD on gloves for CDR. Past that, weapons maybe?

The only thing I can say is try it out for yourself, and see how much you need on average. Weirdly enough, “easier” content makes it more difficult to keep WotB up (less density, monster die instantly).

Toughness rolls are another concern. Generally speaking you want one Life% somewhere, one Life per Hit if you can muster it, and one Life per Fury spent (usually Belt), It’s kind of difficult to find a balance since you need the chest and shoulder to have Rend%. It’s weirdly difficult to roll everything you want with Wastes, but alas you gotta give something up.

Again, this rolling advice is to make your speedfarming life easier and more consistent – it is not for tryharding, or takes into consideration “primary statless” high paragon rerolling.

Legendary Gem Notes

Taeguk is locked no matter what kind of content you’re doing – it’s your best gem. Powerful is amazing for any speedfarming venture.

Trapped is a weird one for the Whirlwind speedfarming builds – why? Because the gem won’t really trigger for the whole “1 second” of Rend since you move so fast. The only other gem I would replace it with is probably Gogok of Swiftness – mainly to help with WotB uptime. In any case, I just wanted to point out that Trapped may be iffy in some (stricly) speedfarming scenarios…

If you’re in content that needs stricken, remove Powerful for Stricken.

This is just the first pass on our speedfarming guide updates!
Look forward to more in-depth information soon!

That’s it for now, regarding the Best speedfarming builds for Barbarian! Undoubtedly, Whirlwind and Wastes reign supreme, and for good reason. It’s one of the most disgustingly fast (and brainless) builds to farm with.

  1. Everything I’m finding says that kanai powers and items do not stack, what’s the point of having the skull grasp item and kanai power?

  2. Hey there, big thanks for this guide. Gems aren’t mentioned though, I was wondering which one I should use. I’m guessing obviously Green on weapons and Blue on helm, but what about chest and legs pieces ? Blue for AR or Red for Str ?

  3. Hi there. With regards to the IK6 speed farming build, how do you have the skills list mapped onto a mouse button? (i.e. only 1 of those, whirlwind, works on my right click. I can’t activate any of the others on my left)
