Help! I can't use those skills because they're from the same category! - How to Turn On Elective Mode

If you’re not allowed to put two skills on your bar because they’re from the same category – FEAR NOT! This isn’t a bug or a permanent in-game restriction. You simply have to CHECK ON ELECTIVE MODE, via Esc > Options > Gameplay > Elective Mode!

Binding Force Move to Mousewheel up & down is a value change that every player should make IMO. It prevents misclicks and skill misfires, and forces you to move to where otherwise an enemy might be.

Wrath of the Wastes: commonly asked build variants & options

Skills?

Furious Charge and War Cry are the only skills that aren’t absolutely necessary. Yeah I get that they’re good and all, but speaking in all technicality, these two are the closest things you can get to “optional” in this build.

That being said, what’s the replacements, man!?

War CryVeteran’s Warning gives us a titanic toughness increase.

Furious Charge triggers FnR. Now, there MAY be a better replacement for this, but I’m hard pressed to find one… it breaks the Rend damage bonus though… What else can be used!? Not using FnR makes the set super weak, which is not an option.

Battle Rage is the only legitimate “option”, but fitting that in means removing one of the above. If you do that, you’re gonna pay some way or the other.

Passives?

Weapons Master, Ruthless and Rampage are set in stone.

Rampage is the highest scaling DPS passive. Increasing a % of our total strength improves our damage a lot, and our armor too. This is a beefy passive that you should never drop.

Ruthless is taken next simply because it’s “always on”, meaning every slain enemy will pass through the Ruthless phase. Compared to the other Barb dps passives, this is good. It also helps out shorten the “critical HP” phase of rift guardians, where they get stronger.

Weapons Master is a must to augment our Fury generation. This is more noticeable when Fury is most needed, against light density encounters vs elites, and the RG. It also fuels our Rending en masse – that isn’t cheap!

What’s the last one? or for Hellfires?

Relentless and Nerves of Steel are where I’d look at first for a defensive passive. Relentless is very notable, it’s one of the strongest toughness passives in the game. Nerves of Steel is your standard free-death and it’s never bad to have.

Berserker Rage is probably next up for offensives. It helps you out when you’re fighting lots of guys and generating infinite Fury (increasing our DPS where Rend shines most – against lots of guys). Past this, choices get real slim, Brawler is the next best thing.

Wrist? Amulet?

A couple slots here are “OPEN”, but they also have slim options…

Strongarm procs off Furious Charge last I checked. There is no bracer that’s relevant to our cause here so feel free to even go Nemesis

Hellfire is decent giving us another passive. Eye of Etlich seems to be the only other choice for its large ranged damage reduction.

Notes on Rend, WW Rune

Rend triples its damage while we’re Whirlwinding, so always try to WW! It seems easy enough until your fury runs low. So try to find the biggest fights you can.

Why Bloodbath? To those newer with the build Bloodbath can apply ON TOP of rend. Last time I checked, Bloodbath also stacks twice due to Lamentation. In effect this gives you a whole lot of bonus damage… value. No other rune comes close!

WhirlwindWind Shear? Okay so back in the day this and Weapons Master gave us enough Fury… Back then, Weapons Master only gave 1 fury on hit – now it gives 2. So in effect we can play around with this rune – maybe Blood Funnel for some healing, or Hurricane for some Strongarm procs. I’m convinced Hurricane may be correct these days.

Wrath of the Wastes Reroll Notes?

Wrath of the Wastes: Reroll notes – commonly asked questions on rerolls.

Why choose Shoulder, Chest and Boots for Wastes? Okay technically, you should be using your best rolled item mix to accommodate W4IK6 – but if you had a choice use those 3. Why, you ask?

  • Shoulder and Chest – needs Rend damage, which will likely only be useful for Wastes-centric builds. Don’t wanna ruin your ancient IK chest for that, right?
  • Boots – doesn’t have skill% needed for Rend. Again, why use the IK set that you might need for Raekor or something?

Weapon Woes! It’s very very difficult to roll a good IK Breaker for Rend. Life per Fury Spent is optional but provides an amazing healing bonus, it’s great for some RG’s and elites, you will likely lose a roll, though (Damage%). Call of the Ancients% comes on all IKBB’s – it’s hard to roll for the perfect one… (STR VIT LPFS Rend%) or (STR VIT DMG% Rend%)

Life per Fury Spent should be on your belt no matter what. It’s too strong! Again having this on weapon is a luxury, but honestly I’d say it’s worth it.

Area Damage? CDR? ASPD? Are all pretty much trash stats for W4IK6. They do not impact your build in a meaningful way.

Life per Hit is also considered to be very poor for this build, given our other options. If ever you want it, Bracer is the ONLY place I’d put it.

That’s it (for now!) – Hopefully, the Wastes Build Guide helped you out. We plan to expand on the new set guides once we decide on a good format, with information relevant to many different types of players. Of course, these guides will always be focused on the “end-game”.
