You’ll find all sorts of information here regarding the Slayer Career (for Bardin) in Vermintide 2. The Slayer is a DPS class that cannot equip a ranged weapon. Instead, you can equip 2 melee weapons, and have access to the career-specific Dual Axes. If absurd attack speed, damage, and mobility speak to you – Slayer is the right career choice!

Slayer Passive Abilities

  • Trophy Hunter: Stacking damage buff on hitting an enemy
  • Path of Carnage: Increased attack speed

Slayer Career Skill: Leap – Bardin leaps forward to stun a target, and gains a brief burst of attack speed

Slayer Early Game / Starter Build Template

This is meant to be a General purpose” build for the Slayer which focuses on the early to midgame. I will be adding more specialized builds which require more heavy item support soon.

Slayer Early Game / Starter Build – Talent Summary

Level “Best” Optional
5 Hack and Slash See it Coming
10 Crippling Wounds Oblivious to Pain
15 Moving Target
Adrenaline Surge
20 Grudge-Borne
Just Drunk Enough
25 No Escape Unstoppable

Slayer Early Game / Starter Talent Choice Discussion

L5 Talent - Hack and Slash

Hack and Slash (+Crit chance) More crit is always great, as it allows you to synergize well with many of the late-game item builds. Never sad to have it as a default pick.

See it Coming (+Dodge range) Probably best in Legend. If you’re good enough to live without it, great.

Stoutfellow (+Max HP) Ehh… Not a huge fan on the Slayer, but it’s a great talent most of the time.

L10 Talent - Crippling Wounds

Crippling Wounds (Crits cause enemies to take more damage) really helps taking out bosses a little bit faster. Group-wide DPS buffs are always welcome.

Oblivious to Pain (Reduce damage to 15 or halved, whichever higher) is a great choice, and probably better for higher difficulties. It’s almost impossible to get one-shot with this.

Stunty Saviour (+movespeed when last man standing) useless.

L15 Talent - Moving Target

Moving Target (Trophy Hunter increases defense) Not a bad bonus since its going to be up 100% of the time in combat.

Adrenaline Surge (Trophy Hunter reduces leap charge time) Also viable. It’s a more offensive choice, and has defensive (mobility) implications too. Could be the best choice once you’re more used to the career.

Unstoppable (Increases Trophy Hunter buff duration) seems really unneeded.

L20 Talent - Grudge-Borne

Grudge-Borne (THP on Kill) is a great default choice. It’s simply easier to trigger early on. But, especially with Slayer, you want to switch to THP on Crit as soon as you “can”.

Just Drunk Enough (THP on Crit) is vastly superior to on-kill with Slayer due to your high ASPD. You just need a bunch of crit on items to make it viable.

Grimnir’s Champion (Heal on boss kill) I really don’t like this talent.

L25 Talent - No Escape / Unstoppable

No Escape (Faster movespeed after leap) this gives the highest potential for clutch play. I like it, but I realize many people will just go for the higher DPS option below.

Unstoppable (Attacks uninterruptible after leap) another very viable pick. Having your attacks go through “as planned” no matter what after leaping is great for obvious reasons. You don’t want your massive ASPD boost to go to waste, right?

Crunch! (Increase leap stagger effect) Maybe to chain stun bosses in Legend? What does “improve” mean!? While it “could be viable”, I need more info.

Remember the above recommendations are primarily suited to be good for “most people”, specifically for “early to midgame” when gear drops can’t easily be tailor fit to your needs.

MORE DISCUSSION TO COME AS THE DAYS PASS!

Well that’s about it (FOR NOW) regarding Bardin’s Slayer Career path in Vermintide 2. Slayer gets a bad rap for having no ranged weapon – but who said you ever needed one… DPS and mobility are what Slayer is all about, and it does so well.
