Hey! You have a newly minted Fresh 70 Barbarian! If you’re wondering where to go from here… “Look no further“. It is time to get your Barb’s free set this season! Follow the steps below and you’ll get your free set and be ready to transition to endgame IN NO TIME!
In S14, the Barbarian free set is The Legacy of Raekor.
Raekor is disgustingly strong as a fresh ungeared character –
even 4 pieces is enough to own. This will be an easy journey!

|S14 Fresh 70 Raekor 6 piece Set Build|
|Furious Charge||Any / All|
|Ancient Spear (Open)||Boulder Toss|
|Ground Stomp||Wrenching Smash|
|Leap (Open)||Call of Arreat|
|War Cry||Invigorate (Veteran’s Warning)|
|Battle Rage||Ferocity (Any)|
|Rampage||USE A DEFENSIVE!|
I’ll slowly push you towards an IK6 R4 setup! Good ol charge farming!
Honestly, many of the skills are open. You only need Furious Charge!
With R6, any fury spender we use will be massively… MASSIVELY buffed. Boulder Toss is great, but feel free to play around with Seismic Slam or whatever. Watch Rift Guardians explode with a 5-stack spender!
If you’re confident: fit Sprint-Marathon into the build (a great “fury dump”).
As you’re proceeding with the next steps, keep these important things in mind!
Now we have to gain as much power, as quickly as possible.
This is the easiest way to gain power simply because acquiring them has little to no RNG. Getting 3 of your best gems will increase your power dramatically in a short timespan.
Click on the tabs to see The Legacy of Raekor “Big 3” gems and “others”.
Get these three to L25 ASAP:
Bane of the Powerful is a great gem to 25 asap. Helps out against elites and is “at full power” once it hits 25. Great to upgrade first, and let it chill.
No other DPS gem will truly help you right now.
Moratorium: Trusty ‘ol Moratorium. 25 points in this guy is like a mini Unity. You MUST have Life per Hit / Life per Fury Spent (or the Templar heal skills…). It’s rather useless without self-healing. “B-b-b-ut, muh gem-ups!” – you can use it for augments when you don’t need it any more. Alternatively, Molten Wildebeest’s Gizzard is the early game crutch for a lack of self-healing… try it out if you’re sorely lacking regen.
Any other gems worth it?
Try to get the Top 3 gems to level 25 as soon as possible. Just do some efficient point farming. GR34 is enough to level a gem to 25!
Playing the Build & Adjustments
Now that you have the base “power level” of your 6 set and gems, let’s take a short time to review How to Play the Build. Here’s some basic tips for playing The Legacy of Raekor to help you as you progress into higher difficulties. It’s by no means comprehensive, but helpful.
Also, as you progress and get items, your build may have a weak point here and there that you can patch up given the simple skill, rune, and passive changes listed below.
Eh, this is pretty basic at this level…
“Either you charge one guy, or you charge ALL the guys”.
There’s nothing more frustrating that losing all your charge stacks. Whether it’s by misplay, lag or laziness – avoid this, man! It’s terrible to be locked out of your only relevant skill!
So it means you either abuse Merciless Assault, or abuse Raekor 2pc. Charging tiny clumps (IE 3 blue elites) is a bad idea. This gives you a good incentive to learn and keep to heart the concept of building density.
Stomp – Boulder: this mini combo is amazeballs. Works wonderfully against spread out and ranged guys, which is the bane of Raekor. Works with any suction effect (which is why I put Leap in there for now).
Use Charge to travel if need be – but hold on to your final one. You get three charges via the runes, but don’t EVER use the final one to “simply travel”.
Offense is usually categorized in Damage or, indirectly, Resource Gain.
MOVE ALONG, there’s not much here…
This build is pretty much fully stacked in “practical sources of offense”.
- Rampage which is recommended already, is the best overall offensive passive.
- Ruthless is a generic DPS passive and is probably better in the late-game. The problem for early farming is that it doesn’t help with your one-shot capability.
- Brawler is probably the worst, as it can get awkward with the build, especially for early game where densities aren’t that good.
- Berserker Rage? I’m not updated on the mechanics of how this works with Raekor… does it have a “delay” like Mr. Yan? Please chime in on this, long-time chargers…
Sadly, “on the fly” changes for offense are few and far between. The offensive capabilities of Raekor 6 are mostly locked behind Items.
I know this tab is also for Fury generation. Well… You’re swimming in it.
Defense is primarily thought of as self-healing and damage reduction.
Stop thinking of GR80. Self-healing (and toughness) is important NOW.
Remember good ‘ol Life per Fury Spent and Life per Hit.
Raekor’s is notoriously weak with health sustain… This is why early on we use War Cry-Invigorate, and optionally, Inspiring Presence as DPS won’t be a likely factor to be “holding you back”. There are better ways to sustain, but let’s not get too much into late-game discussion here…
Bloodthirst is kinda funny with this build. Boulder Toss will now double as a massive heal. It’s not bad at all… if you need it, you need it – right? KEEP IN MIND this can be redundant with the stat “Life per Fury Spent” found in Mighty Belts and Mighty Weapons.
These are notable changes especially to make bounties go a little faster!
- Battle Rage-Ferocity is a no – brainer.
- Sprint-Marathon – A great fury dump since we generate so much. Standoff wants this.
- Pound of Flesh – speed and regen. Two for the price of one!
Items to look for
Not that legendary gems are wrapped up (the easy part…), it’s time for the ENDLESS grind for the perfect items! Raekor, luckily, has only very few core items
Where to spend your blood shards, loosely ordered by importance! Since we already have our Raekor 6 piece, what should we use our shards on next?
Vile Ward – If you took 2 seconds to read what it does, this becomes a painfully obvious place to start dumping blood shards into: Shoulders first! This is a DISGUSTING INCREASE IN POWER FROM A SINGLE ITEM. Cube this.
That’s it for key items! Now WE FIND IMMORTAL KING SET PIECES.
- Helm – Immorta King’s Triumph
- Gloves – Immortal King’s Irons
- Body – Immortal King’s Eternal Reign (I prefer using Raekor Body)
- Legs – Immortal King’s Stature
- Boots – Immortal King’s Stride
- Belt – Immortal King’s Tribal Binding
- Weapon – Immortal King’s Boulder Breaker (DO NOT USE SHARDS FOR THIS)
Use your shards to find these. The goal is to combine 6 pieces of Immortal King with 4 pieces Raekor using Ring of Royal Grandeur.
Bracers are up next. 3 of them are a decent upgrade:
- Ancient Parthan Defenders: works with frozen guys! A massive defense up.
- Skular’s Salvation: Improves our already OP Boulder Toss.
- Strongarm Bracers: last I checked this still works with Furious Charge.
- Nemesis: never bad to have.
There are some “low impact fillers” here and there like Aquila Cuirass…
After this – the usefulness of shards for the “25” tier is almost non-existent. Time to frustrate ourselves by spending on the 50 buck rings!
Ring of Royal Grandeur: from ACT I bounties and is SUPER IMPORTANT for almost any Barb build.
Avarice from Act III bounties, for speedfarming – might as well list it down here.
If there is a single weapon to skyrocket us into godhood it’s the 2H-Polearm: Standoff. Spare no expense in getting this! This is the first place you should look into sinking your Death’s Breaths into.
2H Mighty Weapon: Immortal King’s Boulder Breaker – for hybrid IK/Raekor.
Aside from this there’s not much else you’d really want…
2H Mace: The Furnace – one of those good ‘ol Barb staples.
I suppose you can do Rings for Band of Might…
Ring of Royal Grandeur: “Break” your 6-piece to make space for a good filler item!
Unity: Straight 50% damage reduction in the cube. Too bad you need two of ’em.
How to fit in IK6R4 to get all the set bonuses?
Physically fit in 3 Raekor pieces, 5 Immortal King pieces, and let RoRG fill it out.
- Helm: Raekor / IK
- Shoulder: ALWAYS Raekor
- Chest: Raekor / IK (Preferably Raekor) (FC% is “better” on R chest)
- Belt: ALWAYS IK.
- Legs: Raekor / IK
- Boots: Raekor / IK
- Weapon: ALWAYS IK.
- Ring or Cube: Ring of Royal Grandeur.
So you skipped a whole chunk of the powering up phase with the free set. Now what? Like I always say, “Speedfarming first before pushing GR’s”. So, convert what you have NOW to be as speedfarmy as possible, first.
Luckily, the build we recommend above leads RIGHT INTO the Barb speedfarming build.
