So, now what!?

Torment VI: Is your new MINIMUM farming level. Certain items, cubed powers and other upgrades will very quickly raise this. UE6 is very powerful, and farms very fast! TOUGHNESS will be your problem way before damage will be.  (You can try going higher)

A quick review before proceeding…

As you’re proceeding with the next steps, keep these important things in mind!

Non-set pieces
Max Discipline!

Also, just because they’re free… it doesn’t mean they’re good. Reroll out the garbage stats on your free set like LpS, Armor etc. Check this if you need to see what UE6 rerolls look like.

Gaining Power!

Now we have to gain as much power, as quickly as possible.

Legendary Gems

This is the easiest way to gain power simply because acquiring them has little to no RNG. Getting 3 of your best gems will increase your power dramatically in a short timespan.

Click on the tabs to see Unhallowed Essence “big 3” gems, and “others”.

Unhallowed Essence Fresh 70: Big 3 GemsOther gems

Get these three to L25 ASAP: Zei’s, Powerful, Trapped.

Zei’s Stone of Vengeance: Packs the most punch out of any other Legendary gem for Unhallowed Essence. It scales very well with each upgrade, and provides a random stun.

Bane of the Trapped: Is easily triggered with Thrill of the Hunt, making that passive worth its weight in gold, as it protects you by giving a massive slow to the bad guys.

Bane of the Powerful: UE is quite bad at tanking and taking out elites so this helps in that regard. But it’s main purpose – it’s purely for MORE DAMAGE!

Any other gems worth it? Stricken, Hoarder, Wreath.

Bane of the Stricken: is a gem that UE6 might be forced to use in extremely high GR – but not worth investing into this early. Just keep it in mind.

Wreath of Lightning: is a commonly used speedy gem. Keep it at 25, it’s never bad to own one in any season – especially those who like to level different characters.

Boon of the Hoarder: You need this for speedfarming. And if there’s one thing Unhallowed Essence is good at… thank god it’s our free set!
(See: Speedfarming General, Demon Hunter Speedfarming, DH Fastest Speedfarming)

Aside from these 5 gems listed in these tabs, any other gem is considerably worse.

Just get them asap while slowly climbing the GR’s you’re allowed to do. Do neph/GR/neph/GR etc until you get  the big 3. Don’t overdo the level, just go for efficient farming and cheap empowering. GR 38 is enough to 25 a gem.

With 3 of your best gems at L25 – try much higher Torment levels (VIII at least).

Items to look for

Okay now that the easy part of powering up is done, it’s time for the farmy bit. Here I will be listing all the high-impact items you can pick up, and how to get them (aside from drops).

Notable “fillers”: If you have these… why not…
Kridershot + Augustine’s Panacea: Elemental arrow – (Ball or Frost) over Multishot.
Sword of Ill Will + Spines of Seething Hatred: Chakram-Razor Disk over Multishot.

Remember that “just one piece” of these fillers don’t work. YOU MUST HAVE ‘EM BOTH for it to be worth it. Why? UE6 will only increase Multishot or GENERATORS. Chakram and Elemental Arrow do not become generators until you get the respective legendary. And even then, will not be better than Multishot until you get the accompanying “booster”.

Blood ShardsDeath's BreathClassics
Using Blood Shards:

Since you got a free Unhallowed Essence 6, it’s time to patch up the extra pieces –

Dead Man’s Legacy: Is of course, pure power. While getting the quiver you want from Blood Shards may be difficult, the reward for getting it is an unbelievable increase in power. Again, keep in mind “If your quiver doesn’t have max disc – roll it on no matter what”.

Cindercoat: I’m listing this item first as it’s the best thing you can pick up off Blood Shards. HOWEVER it’s VERY DIFFICULT TO GET THIS FROM A DH. If you can ask a friend to powerlevel a L31 Monk to spend Blood Shards on, do that. Why? CLOAKS – a DH specific chest item – are part of Kadala’s drop rate for us, which makes this really frustrating.

Wraps of Clarity: Bracers are an amazing thing to roll for since you can also get the super important Nemesis.

Belts: Witching Hour, but you can get a whole lot of filler belts, too. Hunter’s Wrath, Goldwrap. Witching Hour is very rare so once you get a decent belt, just move on for now.

Focus / Restraint: Are pretty steep at 50 bucks each – but there’s quite a few fillers you can get here as well. CoE, Zodiac, Stone of Jordan, Manald Heal

Stone of Jordan? Manald Heal? Can act as very solid fillers. They are the only rings that give +MAX DISCIPLINE. SoJ can even be used until the end of time (Fire/Crit/Elite/Socket).

Other fillers? Magefist comes to mind, Visage of Gunes, Leoric’s Crown, Gloves of Worship

Using Death’s Breath – Rare to legendary:

Okay it’s very difficult to tell you which one to go for first, but it’s between these two:

Upgrading 2H Bows: for Yang’s Recurve is legit. However, the other 2H Bows in this game don’t really help UE6 much. Kridershot is a decent “filler” you can get here.

Upgrading 1H Crossbow: for Dawn is also a vast jump of power. It’s also “safe” as it’s an item for the cube. You can also pick up Calamity here which is a great temporary filler.

Upgrading Quiver: If your Dead Man’s Legacy really isn’t comin’ out from shards, and you have both of the weapons – it’s time to upgrade quivers!

The Classics: Good for any type of newer character, and even the most battle-hardened of builds.

Ring of Royal Grandeur: “Break” your 6-piece to make space for a good filler item!

Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac: Infinite Resource with Preparation-Punishment, Vengeance… a great “filler” ring that can allow you to “cheat” past proper gear rolls on CDR.

Reaper’s Wraps: Not so relevant on DH but can free up a passive slot (Blood Vengeance). Kill Malthael for the plans – and craft it! A legit early boost with no RNG reliance.

Accessory Sets: FocusRestraint or Traveler’s Pledge. Completing any of these 2-sets is a vast power jump. +100%++ is substantial for only 2 slots.

Convention of Elements: Good ‘ol CoE. Wear it, Kanai it, as a filler or till the end of time. Learning to maximize CoE in any build you choose is a turning point for higher GR’s.

Unity: Straight 50% damage reduction in the cube. Too bad you need two of ’em.

Goldwrap + Avarice + Boon of The Hoarder: I don’t care how many times I have to remind you about this combo. Be on the lookout. Avarice drops from ACT III bounties.

UE6 build is very narrow and there aren’t many variations for items. While hunting for these items, very little fillers can be of use. UE6 is on the highway to speedfarming, speed Act III bounties for your Avarice! Your life and money will vastly improve.

Playing the Build & Adjustments

Here’s some really basic tips for playing UE to help you as you progress into higher difficulties. It’s by no means comprehensive, but still helpful.

Resource Management: UE6 is so unbelievably powerful, that the only thing that keeps its power in check is RESOURCE COST. Naturally, you will do everything in your power to gain as much Hatred as possible, while spending every point of it meaningfully!

Missiles are king: they’re much stronger than your Multishot “cone”. This works out great in the end since the cone kills the weaker guys and the missiles will eventually hit the fats.

Missile Mechanics! Upon pressing Multishot the missiles will lock-in to a target. If your target dies while the missile is travelling – it vanishes! Avoid this by waiting in between shots or weaving in Evasive Fire (gaining more hatred!).

Group ’em up: As you go into higher GR/s grouping becomes very relevant. It’s senseless to waste Hatred on packs of 1-3 whites. Let ’em follow you and obliterate them en masse!

It’s easy to mow down hordes of enemies, but eventually you’ll understand when you have to play carefully and maximize Missiles/Hatred. It’s a big part of UE6’s optimization.

DISCIPLINE!!!! Tumbling about drastically lowers your Discipline. A great number of Demon Hunters forget that Preparation has an active use: Restore Discipline!

As you progress and get items, your build may have a weak point here and there that you can patch up given the simple skill, rune, and passive changes listed below.

Build adjustments

UE6 has extreme damage potential. The first thing that’s gonna hold you back is defense. Companion is our only “optional skill”. The OPEN slot will be taken by Vengeance ASAP, once we get Dawn. (You can use it even without Dawn too, I suppose)

Offense & ResourceDefense & HealingSpeed & Mobility
 More offense or Hatred needed?

Offense is usually categorized in Damage or, indirectly, Resource Gain.

This build is “maxed out” on damage potential with the exception of Bat (but it helps resource gain). There’s very little we can do in terms of dealing more damage.

Companion-Wolf was the go-to companion for UE back in the days. But I feel that this might now be in contention with…

Marked for DeathContagion or other runes may be stronger than Wolf these days…

Vengeance should be taken ASAP. You’ll only really feel this with Dawn, however. You can still use it without Dawn to help you out vs tougher elites and guardians.

Ambush is the best DPS passive if you have the space, or a Hellfire. This improves greatly later on when you’re packing Dead man’s Legacy, bringing them to double tap range.

 More defense needed?

Defense is usually categorized in either Toughness or Self-healing capability.

Leech is the ultimate DH defensive change. It just makes so many elite affixes “doable”, and prevents that annoying slow death to projectiles and ghosts. It’s the very first thing I’d consider to make your build a lot more “RNG PROOF”.

Shadow Power-Gloom is really good, but you’re gonna have to let go of Wolf for this, as every other skill is NEEDED. Excellent tool for helping out vs. bad situations.

Awareness is also good for a glass cannon build such as this, but I’d only recommend it if deaths become a major roadblock to farming quickly.

Boar and Numbing Traps are probably the next best thing. The other defensive choices are just poor in comparison to anything listed above.

 More mobility needed?

Mobility and Speed shouldn’t be focused on THIS EARLY. It’s a luxury for a Fresh 70 Demon Hunter. But when you can fit them in, consider these…

What to cut? It’s probably Cull the Weak, as Thrill of the Hunt will trigger our Trapped.

Any other changes for speed at this point is too greedy, and I cant recommend it.

Bridging to the End-game

So you skipped a whole chunk of the powering up phase with the free set. Now what? Like I always say, “Speedfarming first before pushing GR’s”. So, convert what you have NOW to be as speedfarmy as possible, first.

  1. Meticulous Bolts is no longer in game, it has been replaced by Augustine’s Panacea. Other than that great site and great guides, I am feeling a sudden urge to remake sevral of my toons when ever I see the guides here.

  2. Hi, I’m getting piece 3 and 4 from “The Shadow Mantle” set. I’m using 1H sword in weapon slot 1 and slot 2 (off-hand), I can’t use anything (because all 1H). Since we need Karlei’s Point and Dawn later on. We should able to use dagger or sword/crossbow (both 1H) together. Why I can’t do it now. Did I overlook something ?

  3. Holy wow. I stalled at Expert level because I didn’t understand the 2 set bonus. I went from weakling to god in a few steps by reading this. I owe you one.

  4. I was lucky to find “Thunderfury…” leg sword early in season, so when I extracted its Kanai power, it became a nice step to making Impale more anti-group oriented than before 🙂 that lightning damage
