Fresh 70 Demon Hunter? Need a li’l nudge to get you closer to your Free Set this season? Well, you’ve come to the right place then. Here, we will talk about how to complete the season journey in the most efficient way possible.
Unhallowed Essence is Season 15’s free set.
Click below to reveal the instructions you need for each step:
|Season 15 Unhallowed Essence 6 piece Set Build|
|Evasive Fire||Hardened (Focus)|
|Open (Vengeance)||Open (Seethe)|
|Blood Vengeance||Thrill of the Hunt|
|Ballistics||(Leech) Cull the Weak|
CRAFT A REAPER’S WRAPS ASAP. Plans drop from any Torment Malthael!
It makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in Hatred management – and is possibly the best item you can get at this moment!
So, what now?
Torment VI: Is your new MINIMUM farming level. Certain items, cubed powers and other upgrades will very quickly raise this. UE6 is very powerful and farms very fast! TOUGHNESS will be your problem way before damage will be. (You can try going higher).
A quick review before proceeding…
Keep these important things in mind as you progress!
Also, just because they’re free… it doesn’t mean they’re good. Reroll out the garbage stats on your free set like LpS, Armor etc. Or better yet, reroll your garbage stats off everything.
Now we have to gain as much power, as quickly as possible. The first place to look is Legendary Gems, as well as keeping an eye out for critical items.
This is the easiest way to gain power simply because acquiring them has little to no RNG. Getting 3 of your best gems will increase your power dramatically in a short time span.
Click on the tabs to see Unhallowed Essence “Big 3” gems, and “others”.
Zei’s Stone of Vengeance: Packs the most punch out of any other Legendary gem for Unhallowed Essence. It scales very well with each upgrade and provides a random stun.
Bane of the Powerful: UE is quite bad at tanking and taking out elites so this helps in that regard. But it’s main purpose – it’s purely for MORE DAMAGE!
Any other gems worth it?
Bane of the Stricken: is a gem that UE6 might be forced to use in extremely high GRs – but not worth investing into this early. Just keep it in mind.
Esoteric Alteration: Is the “stricken” of defensive gems. When poison kills you in 1 tick you know what gem you should be looking for.
Boon of the Hoarder: You need this for speedfarming. And if there’s one thing Unhallowed Essence is good at… thank god it’s our free set!
(See: Speedfarming General, Demon Hunter Speedfarming Primer, Best DH Speedfarming)
Aside from these 5 gems listed in these tabs, any other gem is considerably worse.
Just get them asap while slowly climbing the GR’s you’re allowed to do. Do neph/GR/neph/GR etc until you get the big 3. Don’t overdo the level, just go for efficient farming and cheap empowering. GR 34 is enough to 25 a gem.
With 3 of your best gems at L25 – try much higher Torment levels (VIII at least). So now the real farming begins! From here on, obliterating elites is still the game plan. You’ll still face problems with mobs, and you might need to put a little mind on defense, too.
Playing the Build & Adjustments
Here’s some really basic tips for playing UE to help you as you progress into higher difficulties. It’s by no means comprehensive, but still helpful.
UE has a 2-fold issue early on: toughness and Hatred regen.
Resource Management: UE6 is so unbelievably powerful, that the only thing that keeps its power in check is RESOURCE COST. Naturally, you will do everything in your power to gain as much Hatred as possible, while spending every point of it meaningfully!
Missiles are king: they’re much stronger than your Multishot “cone”. This works out great in the end since the cone kills the weaker guys and the missiles will eventually hit the fats.
Missile Mechanics! Upon pressing Multishot the missiles will lock-in to a target. If your target dies while the missile is travelling – it vanishes! Avoid this by waiting in between shots or weaving in Evasive Fire (gaining more hatred!).
Group ’em up: As you go into higher GR/s grouping becomes very relevant. It’s senseless to waste Hatred on packs of 1-3 whites. Let ’em follow you and obliterate them en masse!
It’s easy to mow down hordes of enemies, but eventually you’ll understand when you have to play carefully and maximize Missiles/Hatred. It’s a big part of UE6’s optimization.
As you progress and get items, your build may have a weak point here and there that you can patch up given the simple skill, rune, and passive changes listed below.
UE6 has extreme damage potential. The first thing that’s gonna hold you back is defense. Companion is our only “optional skill”. The OPEN slot will be taken by Vengeance ASAP, once we get Dawn. (You can use it even without Dawn too, I suppose).
Offense is usually categorized in Damage or, indirectly, Resource Gain.
This build is “maxed out” on damage potential with the exception of Bat (but it helps resource gain). There’s very little we can do in terms of dealing more damage.
Companion-Wolf was the go-to companion for UE back in the days. But I feel that this might now be in contention with…
Defense is usually categorized in either Toughness or Self-healing capability.
Leech is the ultimate DH defensive change. It just makes so many elite affixes “doable”, and prevents that annoying slow death to projectiles and ghosts. It’s the very first thing I’d consider to make your build a lot more “RNG PROOF”.
Evasive Fire-Hardened is surprisingly good. Take this when you feel like you have “exceeded the minimum” resource management setup.
Awareness is also good for a glass cannon build such as this, but I’d only recommend it if deaths become a major roadblock to farming quickly.
Shadow Power-Gloom is really good, but you’re gonna have to let go of… well… something. I guess it isn’t super practical but it’s sort of worth mentioning.
This early on, Mobility and Speed shouldn’t be the focus of your build. It’s a luxury for a Fresh 70 Demon Hunter.
- Tactical Advantage is THE speedy DH passive of choice.
- Hot Pursuit – I didn’t like this at first, but it’s actually not so bad.
Items to look for
Okay now that the easy part of powering up is done, it’s time for the farmy bit. Here I will be listing all the high-impact items you can pick up and how to get them (aside from drops).
CRAFT A REAPER’S WRAPS ASAP. Plans drop from any Torment Malthael!
UE isn’t all about Multishot (Lol… lol I know I know…). Check the box below.
For our “main build”, however – this is what you should look out for
Since you got a free Unhallowed Essence 6, it’s time to patch up the extra pieces –
Dead Man’s Legacy: Is of course, pure power. While getting the quiver you want from Blood Shards may be difficult, the reward for getting it is an unbelievable increase in power. Don’t just read the orange text – DML gives +100% Multishot Damage! Again, keep in mind “If your quiver doesn’t have max disc please try getting it”.
Cindercoat: I’m listing this item first as it’s the best thing you can pick up off Blood Shards. HOWEVER, it’s VERY DIFFICULT TO GET THIS FROM A DH. If you can ask a friend to power level a L31 Monk to spend Blood Shards on, do that. Why? CLOAKS – a DH specific chest item – are part of Kadala’s drop rate for us, which makes this really frustrating.
Okay it’s very difficult to tell you which one to go for first, but it’s between these two:
Upgrading 2H Bows: for Yang’s Recurve is legit. How legit, you say? 50% faster means 50% more Hatred spent, which sucks ass. But wait, it also has a REDUCED RESOURCE COST OF UP to 50%! THAT IS GODLIKE.
Upgrading Quiver: If your Dead Man’s Legacy really isn’t comin’ out from shards, and you have both of the weapons – it’s time to upgrade quivers!
Aside from these, there’s nothing else I would really look for.
The Classics: Good for any type of newer character, and even the most battle-hardened of builds.
Ring of Royal Grandeur: “Break” your 6-piece to make space for a good filler item!
Unity: Straight 50% damage reduction in the cube. Too bad you need two of ’em.
So you skipped a whole chunk of the powering up phase with the free set. Now what? Like I always say, “Speedfarming first before pushing GR’s”. So, convert what you have NOW to be as speedfarmy as possible, first.
