Natalya’s Vengeance is season 16’s free set.
It is also the SEASON OF GRANDEUR – meaning all characters have the effects of
Ring of Royal Grandeur applied!
How does Season of Grandeur affect me?
It doesn’t affect your leveling process or “early process” of being level 70. The free RoRG effect only really takes place once you have 3/5/6+ of a set – with heavy implications on full end-game builds.
This guide is not about that, but I can give you a heads up about this season’s effects.
There are two possible outcomes of a free RoRG in any build.
- You have space for a filler item. Builds that DO NOT USE OR NEED RoRG simply gain a space for ONE MORE LEGENDARY EFFECT. This is the “minimum” effect of this season, but should not be underestimated. Any build can benefit from, for example, Aquila Cuirass or Nemesis Bracer.
- You gain an accessory slot. Builds that NATURALLY NEED RoRG will open up a space for another accessory. Usually resulting in the addition of CoE and/or Zodiac in your build which is ALWAYS ABSURDLY POWERFUL.
Ideally, something absolutely broken happens. I can’t account for every possibility because the community always surprises me – but one thing’s for sure… the effects of season of grandeur can be condensed into one of those two scenarios.
AT ANY TIME YOU CAN BEAT TORMENT I+ Malthael:
You can CRAFT AND USE REAPER’S WRAPS for a huge boost!
Click below to reveal the instructions you need for each step:
|S16 DH Fresh 70 Natalya’s Vengeance Free Set Build|
|Strafe (Elemental Arrow)||Drifting Shadow|
|Marked for Death (Fan of Knives)||Any (Pinpoint Accuracy)|
|Preparation (Vengeance)||Punishment (Seethe)|
|Rain of Vengeance||Shade|
|Blood Vengeance (Night Stalker)||Thrill of the Hunt|
|Leech||Cull the Weak|
Ultimately, I know MOST DH’s will move away from Nats and go into a UE Speedfarm build (which is smart. It’s great for farming – something we need to do a lot of).
So do what you can to reduce your own pain.
Speaking of pain reduction, I hate to mention it again, BEAT MALTHAEL AND CRAFT REAPER’S WRAPS. It’s going to make your life much much easier.
So, what now?
Torment VI: the minimum torment to farm. You can, of course go higher. The only thing that would hinder you is how well you handle the build. Natalya’s has too many variables for me to tell you where exactly you should be farming. Just remember not to take more than 10 minutes in a Neph.
A quick review before proceeding…
Keep these important things in mind as you progress!
Fixing your gear will vastly improve your game. Re-roll those stats that won’t help you in any way. Don’t let sucky gear stats hold you back from progressing.
Now we have to gain as much power, as quickly as possible. The first place to look is Legendary Gems, as well as keeping an eye out for critical items.
This is the easiest way to gain power simply because acquiring them has little to no RNG. Getting 3 of your best gems will increase your power dramatically in a short time span.
Click on the tabs to see Natalya’s Vengeance “Big 3” gems, and “others”.
Bane of the Powerful: Is probably up next to help you out with your elite killing needs. You only need Level 25 on it!
Any other gems worth it?
Esoteric Alteration: is the lategame defensive gem of choice.
Aside from these 5 gems listed in these tabs, any other gem is considerably worse.
Just get them asap while slowly climbing the GR’s you’re allowed to do. Do neph/GR/neph/GR etc until you get the big 3. Don’t overdo the level, just go for efficient farming and cheap empowering. GR 34 is enough to 25 a gem.
With 3 of your best gems at L25 – try much higher Torment levels (VIII at least). So now the real farming begins! From here on, obliterating elites is still the game plan. You’ll still face problems with mobs, and you might need to put a little mind on defense, too.
Playing the Build & Adjustments
Here’s some really basic tips for playing Natalya’s to help you as you progress into higher difficulties. It’s by no means comprehensive, but still helpful.
Natalya’s Vengeance is one of the most mechanically complex builds out there. Again, the idea is to weave your Evasive Fires while Strafing… there’s a very rhythmic timing to it! This causes the “Reduce cooldown” to happen a little more often AND allows you to “infinitely Strafe” – sounds easy, right? NO.
“Everyone has their own way”
Do your research here and outside this site. There’s a bunch of resources out there about how to do this properly and suggested keybinds but ULTIMATELY you will find your own way!
Now for in-game non-mechanical strategy! ELITES ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS and you should drag them over to clumps, as I’ve mentioned earlier. From a strategic perspective, Nat’s is quite simple… AOE AS MANY GUYS AS YOU CAN – Nat’s has a very satisfying “meat grinder-esque” gameplay if done right. Keep ’em comin’!
Fan of Knives is for the final build… only use it when you get Lord Greenstone’s Fan (preferably with CoE!) – it’s purpose becomes VERY, VERY clear as you play… This combo is used to help out vs Elites! “RoV and move while FoK elites every 30s”.
More offense or Hatred /Discipline needed?
Offense is usually categorized in Damage or, indirectly, Resource Gain.
Any Resource Gain skill or passive that isn’t Vengeance-Seethe or Night Stalker should be seen as TEMPORARY! You can also change your build to allow infinite Strafe while SPEED FARMING, but strictly speaking, the build doesn’t need any of it.
Marked for Death is your best bet for a damage boost to replace one of your skills.
Passives are slim. Nat’s makes use of many Passives and DH isn’t known for great DPS passives. Ambush is the best one, the others are too unreliable.
More defense needed?
Defense is usually categorized in either Toughness or Self-healing capability.
Aside from this, there is probably ZERO practical toughness increases. I’m really not kidding with Leech – it’s worth it.
More mobility needed?
Smokescreen-Displacement is recommended in the base build for its speedfarmy capabilities. Sadly, Discipline is really hard to come by…
Items to look for
Okay, now that the easy part of powering up is done, it’s time for the farmy bit. Here, I will be listing all the high-impact items you can pick up and how to get them (aside from drops).
Crafting a Reaper’s Wraps (drops from any Torment Malthael) is a great early boost, especially for an early game Nat’s Build which heavily relies on holding down a channeled skill. You can free up “some” (or one) resource related skill or passive with this!
Using Blood Shards:
Belt seems to be the best bang for buck here. The real prize is Crashing Rain. While I not only love the name of the item, its effects are downright obscene! 4000% bonus damage! There’s also a ton of good defensive fillers a la Goldwrap or String of Ears.
Shoulders would be next since there’s no Nat’s shoulder. Mantle of Channeling is a shoo-in and gives you damage and defense. Sadly, there’s no other random filler in this slot.
Body comes last – and hopefully you’re a pro at this point… Because it’s Aquila Cuirass we’re lookin’ for! You know you’ve made it with Nat’s if the buff never drops!
Legs has a decent filler in Hexing Pants – a super good cube option for speedier runs.
Using Death’s Breath – Rare to legendary:
Upgrading 1H Crossbows for Dawn is the ULTRA find. Dawn allows us to use Vengeance-Seethe in one of our open skill slots. It’s a massive jump in power. Thankfully, there are other fillers you can find here like Fortress Ballista, Calamity…
Past this you need to upgrade Daggers for Lord Greenstone’s Fan. This adds a whole DIMENSION of power. I’m not even kidding… this is the final nail in the coffin. It may seem janky but once you get used to this, + CoE, it’s absolute insanity.
The Classics: Good for any type of newer character, and even the most battle-hardened of builds.
Ring of Royal Grandeur: “Break” your 6-piece to make space for a good filler item! – tis the season of grandeur!
Unity: Straight 50% damage reduction in the cube. Too bad you need two of ’em.
So you skipped a whole chunk of the powering up phase with the free set. Now what? Like I always say, “Speedfarming first before pushing GR’s”. So, convert what you have NOW to be as speedfarmy as possible, first.
